Never seen how using skill or entertaining is being disrespectful.

Without a word of a lie I have done it in five a side goals and not that long ago either. Mine zipped in the top corner though. Again true.I tried it a few months later at East Mains and I think the ball went out fior a throw in. :greengrin.

Not sure: in this context (6-2 up wasn't it?) I can easily see how this can be seen as being disrespectful - by all means be entertaining and skillful, but there is no need to treat an opposing team that is already down and out this way - seen something similar happening with Bayern München against Werder Bremen years ago when Basler started showing off because his team was winning easily - the Bayern management told him in no uncertain terms to stop it - think respect for your opponents is a good sporting principle.

If this guy's team had been 1-0 down and this was a last minute penalty then that would have put a different complexion on things, don't you think?

Haven't posted for a few days: everything's different on Hibs net somehow - except CC is still here apparently!

I really don't see how it is being disrespectful. The risk was all on the taker and he could have looked like a total twat. It was actually a fairly easy pen to save - maybe the keeper should have been watching the ball.

I would previously have argued that it was disrespectful.

However, having seen some of the dodgy penalty taking in the USA v Japan women's final and and the Brazil v Paraguay match, I'd have to say that any way the taker feels they can get the ball in the net has to be fair enough. The game is all about scoring goals after all.

The best time to show skills and tricks is when you've got a comfortable lead. He'd get slaughtered if they were losing one nil and tried it.

ONly exceptional players can do it in intense games.

When Germany beat Luxembourg 11-1 lehman was going to take a pen and the opposition captain asked him not to because they were embarrassed enough and he agree so fair play on that occasion.

Ally McCloud would have tried that if he'd thought of it when playing for us. :top marks

It's easier than it looks, I used to do this in the park with my mates (and that was a long time ago). Dummies the keeper every time because they are looking for the normal striking leg to pull back and it doesn't happen.

Re OP, I think it's incredibally disrespectfull as well as audacious, the penalty taker will now be a target for every defender wanting to make the point you're not going to do that to his team.
