Weather : As Rod, Jane and Freddy would say "We know a song about that:"

Whether the weather be good,
Whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Whether the weather be hot,
Whatever the weather,
We'll weather the weather
Whether we like it or not.

Right now it's hammering it down in Edinburgh. Not looking good for the fast flowing football we are known for.

Surprised to hear the game is off. I'm in my shorts and have been doing the garden all morning.

Thunder just starting now in Broxburn though.

the rain was pretty bad earlier the st clair street hill had near enough the full road covered in water like a mini river flowing down, still would have hoped our 'state of the art' pitch and draining facilities would have coped.

A pitch in any sort of condition would had coped with that weather. Just had a look at it and its absolutely shocking for this time of year. Something has gone badly wrong with the pitch.

Apart from any water laying on the pitch, was there bare parts as was reported on the radio?

Yes, sandy/bare patches especially on the east touchline and around the centre circle. Its actually got worse in the two weeks since I was last in the ground.

Thats terrible news, i thought we'd have a good surface this season. What do you thinks gone wrong?

No idea. Obviously it might still improve as it grows but not in time for Celtc.

Toxic dye leaching from that bloody Hearts strip, which was buried under the new stand , is doing for our grass. :grr:

:agree: I heard the strip was dipped in asbestos before it was buried, to prove it authentic.

Theres a pic. on the BBC site, close up of pitch, it looks terrible. The company that looks after it needs fired.

It's a far cry from the telly ad for the SPL showing folk turning up at ER with sombreros on a glorious summer's day and setting out their beach stuff in the ground concourse.

Holy mackerel is this rain ever going to stop? It's bucketing.

Global warming lowering ocean salinity levels and exaccerbating the dampening effects of the gulf stream, apparently. But its also that doss c*#¥ Petrie's fault.

I'm no gardener but the shorter break can't have helped much, the SPL is starting about 3 weeks earlier than it usually does meaning far less time between the end of last season and now to re-seed (or whatever they've done) the pitch.

Presumably the new pitch also needs a bit of sunshine to help it grow and we haven't had much of that either. I'm not saying some of the blame doesn't lie with the people who look after the pitch, just think there are other elements that can't have helped.

Currently in Mexico where it could not be hotter, my typically Scottish skin has taken a battering, just as well Im half reeking or I would probably be in pain.

Anyway not ideal the fixture is cancelled but in the interests of the pitch it sounds like a good thing it has been. I will be very disapointed if the pitch is not in top condition for the start of the year as let's be honest if it is crap now it will not be any better for the rest of this season which reducescthe chance of god football being played regardless of the team.

One of the main drags through Perth yesterday.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VoN7iDGOE0&feature=youtube_gdata_player That is unbelievable. I was driving home from cornwall yesterday and didn't hit the rain till just past the border but I must admit the M74 was pretty scary in parts and I had to slow down to about 20 to keep control of the car. Would have been a nightmare on the bike.
