It's annoying we've dropped to Pot 4 as there are some tidy teams in Pot 3, the Belgians are on the up again and the Swiss are nae bad themselves. however, I do have confidence is us beating anyone at Hampden.

basically the draw works with most qualifying groups having one team from each pot giving them 6 teams although some groups only have five teams in them due to an uneven number of countries and if a european county/ies are hosting the competition.

Looking at the pots in one group we could have:

Scotland
England
Ireland
Wales

obviously there will be another team or two but that would be a good group for fans especially against england:agree:

As provided yesterday, the 53 nations which are governed by UEFA are split into 6 pots. The first 5 pots have 9 nations in them, with pot 6 containing 8 nations. Pot 1 contains the highest ranked teams according to the FIFA world rankings with pot 6 containing the lowest ranked teams.

When the draw is done for the European qualifying section for the 2014 World Cup, there will be 9 different groups.

Eight of the groups will contain six nations and one group will contain five nations.

Each of the eight groups of six will contain one nation from each pot and the one group of five will also contain one nation from each pot, with the exception of pot six, the pot containing the so called weakest teams.

After the qualification period has ended, the nine group winners will qualify automatically for Brazil 2014 and the eight best second placed sides will go into a 2 legged play off. The four winners of the play offs will also qualify for Brazil 2014, meaning that there will be 13 European nations in the World Cup in 2014.

I read that a guy from the faroes spotted the mistake in the calculation which meant they moved up and that put Wales down.

The chap who runs this website http://www.football-rankings.info/ says that Wales would have a higher ranking had they played someone in June and, of course, beaten them. As he says, they could have played any team in the World, such as American Samoa and if they had won they would have been in Pot 5, above the Faroe Islands. Surely a mistake by the Welsh FA.

The pots which I stated a couple of weeks ago contain all the same nations, despite the new rankings being announced yesterday before the draw takes place at the weekend.

The only difference is that Portugal are now the fifth ranked side in Europe and Italy are sixth.
