"Part of the roof has collapsed. There are people under the rubble. We don't know how many," a Dutch police spokesman said after the incident at the Dutch top flight club.

The spokesman could not comment on whether anyone was killed or injured. The roof's partial collapse probably was related to construction work at the stadium, he added.

A large number of police, fire brigade and ambulances are heading to or have arrived at the scene, news agency ANP reported.

The Eredivisie club was managed by former England boss Steve McClaren from 2008-2010.

Only by admin but I wouldn't worry too much. We're intelligent people on here.

Holy ****. That's not good. I wonder if the integrity of the other roof structures are compromised or not.

I wouldn't be too keen on pitching up there for the first game of the season.

I was expecting a little bit to have fallen off.

Hope the guys under there are okay but it looks like they'll be lucky if they are.

I was in that stadium two years ago having a look around as one does if one is a football fanatic. I also went to Ajax and Den Haag and Haarlem fc which is now defunct.

Bad news. They like their football the Dutch.

It does seem to be built at quite a steep incline, similar to the Ajax ground as well I believe.

Hate to think what would occur if this happened during a game.
