Is she an old crone or just old fashioned?
I have to say having been on the receiving end of some vitriol from my future mother-in-law I do have some sympathy for the girl. My crime? Arriving late in Dingwall on Christmas Eve due to an accident on the A9. This ******ed in her mind until the following Easter and my total inconsiderateness of being caught in queue of traffic had to brought to my boyfriend's attention, the height of bad manners, apparently, to not be on time for the evening meal. Despite the fact my boyfriend was the one actually driving - it was all my fault....

The fact that the DIL caused the e-mail to be read all round the world probably proves the MIL's original point, that the DIL doesn't know how to behave properly.
