If CC leaves, Petrie's position should be comprehensively reviewed as well. But he owns shares, doesn't he?

Any good manager is always on the lookout for new players to cover injuries etc and any good board should always have a list of possible new managers on hand . Also did Killie not say they`d had loads of candidates so presumably we`d be the same if we advertised the post IF there is a vacancy ( even if there isn`t , this news or rumours will put extra pressure on CC if season starts as badly as last finished ) . There`s still a month till season starts and even then , we only have 2 competitive games before mid August so no rush to find new manager . Would be much worse having to look for a new manager in middle of season. Also , new managers will become available all the time eg in Spain 2nd B playoffs don`t finish till late June so managers will become available there . Candidates ? John Collins , ex Raith manager Antonio Calderon , ex St Mirren player Victor Muņoz , Brian Kerr ( Faroes ) , Laurie Sanchez , Stephen Kenny , Michael O`Neill , Danny Lennon , and hundreds more . Once again our lack of a General manager / Technical Director means that if any manager leaves , we are under pressure from press and fans to appoint a successor quickly .

I'd be delighted if Strachan was appointed, but I doubt that sort of appointment is possible. We can only wait and see.

There are some good managers in the scottish lower leagues too which maybe shouldnt be discounted though I appreciate they are always viewed as gambles. Billy Reid, Smith at Dundee, McGlynn at Raith, Gary Bollan and Paul Sheerin have done well with their clubs in winning championships too, and playing good passing football as well.

I'd love to see strachan in if CC leaves, as was mentioned elsewhere him tearing up his contract at m'boro and leaving without taking compensation as he felt he'd let them down speaks volumes about his character.

IF we are looking for a new manager soon the most important thing is that we appoint someone very quickly!

This is the worst time to lose a manager and we could see another "transitional" season next season.

:agree: We still need several new players, as what we have just now is bottom 6 material. If CC goes, need to move quickly for a new manager, so whoever it is has a chance to work with the players pre-season and put across his ideas.

I agree 100%.

TB has done a fantastic job with ICT on a very tight budget - I read John Barnes Autobiography a while ago and the story about Terry Butcher in the England dressing room before kick-off was class - apparently his "warm up" routine involved him standing banging his head against the changing room wall getting himself wound up for the game :greengrin

I wonder how he would be received at ER if he was the next manager? I still remember the crap that Alex Miller got from a certain section of our fans.

Paul, I really don't think Miller got it tight for being an ex hun at all to be honest. I don't see Butcher getting it either. As an aside when he stayed in Bridge of Allan he used to take the football traing for the local pub team in Causewayhead (not me, I was too old eben then, or maybe I wasn't good enough) and everybody thought he was a gentleman.

I was only just getting into Hibs when AM was manager and to be honest a lot of what went on was going over my head i.e. negative tactics, team formation, abuse from fans, etc. but I do remember quite a few of the older guys who I went to ER back in the day would often refer to him as a hun this or a hun that - thankfully I moved on from going to ER with them.

One of the stories which still peeves me to this day (if true, I only heard about this through a fellow hibee) was the night of the Skol Cup win, apparently at the Hibs Club whilst AM was taking pictures with the fans and the cup, one of them thanked AM for winning the cup but commented that he would always be a "hun bar-steward" in the eyes of some Hibs fans -

Anyway, if the whole CC thing is true then I'd like to see TB at ER - I think he's done a cracking job at ICT and would welcome him.

I think the Alex Miller resentment was purely due to Hibs being really boring at the time, when you don't like someone that is a former Rangers / Hearts man it's easy to add the hun / Jambo insult

FFS pre season has just started and the media silly season has started already.

I will say this that I am a fan of CC and hope he stays but if he ****s off to Forest this early then his credibility must cleary be judged. Yes I am aware there is no loyalty (there are some but not many)

FWIW why would a former England manager want CC as his number 2. Surely someone like Stuart Pearce would be more appropriate.

Will be watching the ongoings but if CC does decide to go then he will get it totally and utterly tight from me.

In all seriousness, Michael O'Neil of Shamrock Rovers. Use the compensation from CC to get him. Shamrock Rovers are top of the league and in the Champions league so it could difficult to get him.

However, he may offer a bit of stability for three or four seasons before he would move on to bigger things in England, because I am sure he would be a success.

Ex player or not he would make an excellent replacement.

Rumours of my Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated - Mark Twain
I've heard of closing the gate after the horse has bolted, but I have never heard of closing the gate while the horse is still in the field.

One of my favourites is Churchills after being chastised by a lady for being drunk:

I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.
Didn't know Churchill knew Michael Mols wife.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I remember the pirhanna-fest when Jumbo was supposed to be signing Miller, now unless Jumbo has taken the helm of an Australian club, this was found to be single fish. In any case, it would be a Lithuanian club and he'd be faxed back on loan.

I'm completely exasperated that we're having this debate again already - don't really know who I'd like to come in but want it to be the best man for the job - no cheapstake second choices - the manager's job at any football club is THE most important job at the club - well worth paying that bit extra to get the right man in - scrimping in this department is pretty much the definition of a false economy.
