England secured an unlikely victory after leaving the visitors 82 all out in their 2nd innings.
Some effort, especially with the amount of time lost to rain.

Fantastic result. I kept switching over from the football.

England must be close to been best test team in the world. :agree:

Shame they are poor at one dayers.

Managed to win despite Anderson not bowling in Sri Lanka's 2nd innings too!

Pretty remarkable result.

I read in the Wisden magazine that results going their way England could rise above South Africa and India to number one in the test rankings this summer. It didn't factor in India taking a weakened side to the Carribean in June. If results go against India there and in England later this summer they could lose their number one status to Strauss's side.

Have to be honest though, Sri Lanka minus Murali, Malinga and Vaas are fairly poor. And new mystery spinner Mendis isn't really that mysterious after all. His three deliveries are all easy to spot if you watch the position of his hand on the ball in his run up.

The most remarkable thing about it is the failure of their batting line up, especially since everyone expected their bowling to be poor. For all of Dilshan, Sanga and Mahela to fail is incredible!

Indeed.

I flicked over from the football early at one point, just as Bell was hitting his century ball and England were declaring. I thought to myself 'no point watching a draw' and it was only when one of my English mates text me that I realised they'd pulled it off!

I'm going down to London next week, the day after the second test finishes though unfortunately, gutted.
