I was hearing today that some people have paid £600 for a ticket for tonights game and it got me thinking,if Hibs were there instead of Man U how much would you be willing to pay for a ticket?

hibee92

Its a weird one because you hear about these people paying such and such to go to these games and you think "that's complete madness" but when it comes down to your team i think i'd do the exact same. :agree:

Mate of mine has paid £1,800 for a pair of tickets and seems to have got a good deal judging by some of the figures being banded out. Wouldn't rule out paying something like that myself if Hibs got to such a final, though I doubt it's a problem I'm likely to have soon!

Jeff stelling just said that ticket sales came to £14M.

scoopyboy
28-05-2011, 05:19 PM
Face value because as a season ticket holder I would be guaranteed one!!!!!!

However if it ever got to the stage where we had more season ticket holders than a finalists allocation then I would pay whatever was required. If it meant £2000, £3000 or even more it would be paid.

Folk on here would probably think nothing of paying over £10000 on a car, my argument would be you can buy a car anytime but Hibs aint getting to the final every year.

Are you going Old Trafford tomorrow if so you up for a pint?

Good start by Manure at Wembley. I paid £86 for Carling Cup final this season, I'm told same ticket for this game was £300 face value.

You don't win football games on points though as in boxing.

I want Man U to win but I think Barcelona will.

More than anything I want to see a good game of football and Man U give a better account of themselves than they did the last time.

So far it has been good.

I placed all of my remaining v buttons (just about) on Man U as I thought they had a chance, but the first half, most of the Man U team just stood and watched Barca passing the ball past them. Barca are a class above and I think it will end 3 or 4 to 1 IF they score the next goal, Man U will then be drawn out and be hit on the counter...............

I'm not a huge fan of Man Utd myself. But they would be making £50M to £60M profit a season if it wasn't for all the debt and loan repayments. Plus they sold Ronaldo and barely spent any of that £80M. That probably amounts to over £300M. If you don't think Man Utd would be a better team with that kind of money to spend, the jokes on you.

Folk mocking Hibs fans who used to complain about our team full of midgets should remember that said midgets were Rankin, Chisholm, Stevenson and Kerr etc. Let's not get silly using Iniesta, Xavi etc., as proof that small is better- good is better, end off.

I think you're backing up my point. Good players are good players. I'm not buying into the theory that because Messi, Iniesta and Xavi are small that we should target small players though.

Back to the game though- I was slightly surprised that Messi got man of the match tonight. He was fantastic and perhaps 8.5 out of 10, but Xavi and Iniesta for me both as close to perfect as you can get. These 2 have become under-rated because they play in the same team as the worlds best player.

Last nights game was superb- watching Barcelona the best club team on the planet destroy Man Utd at Wembley is good as it gets.

The player we can’t mention, so let’s call him the Welsh International should never have been allowed to play with what’s been going on in his personal life.

The guy is a great player and is a pleasure to watch but last night as some have said he was reduced to a shadow of the player we all know him to be.

Vidic saved Man Utd from a hammering and was clearly their best player; even the English commentators were struggling to support Utd due to the way Barca played them off the park.

The best news of the lot will be today when I got the bookie to collect my winning £ 20 at 9-1 on Barca winning 3-1

I thought that was a fantastic performance by Barca last night. People rightly say, if you deny the opposition the ball you won't get beat, but the way they won the ball back from united with what appeared to be consummate ease is what stood out for me. To say they are not good at defending after watching that just illustrates to me how narrow a concept of defending we have. It looked like men against boys- at one point a ball came to Rooney and he must have thought it was his but just as he was about to control it a leg appeared and it was gone. In another incident their goalie collected the ball out side the box and a United player made a run to cut off his route back to his box, if this had happened to a Hibs goalie the dreadful wailing in terror of our support would have been something to behold, here the guy passed it calmly to a defender who merely turned and left two United forwards in his wake.

A couple of things that were a stick out re. Barca's game yesterday.
1) Passes were crisp and ACCURATE often slipping by just out of reach of the Man U defending players. Nearly all passes were no more than a few yards. No hoofers.
2) They appeared to stroll through the game (which is, of course, what class players do).
3) After they pass the ball they take two or three strides and make themselves available for a return pass. (Basic stuff that's alien to the SPL).
4) Discipline. Even after losing the goal they stuck to their game plan. No panic.
5) Defending. When they lose the ball the opposition is closed down immediately.
5) How far down the tubes has our game gone over the past 30-40 years? We're light years away from performances like Barca's yesterday.

I think this is true, that Manchester United are pretty much a barometer for the changing face of English football. as you say, they are very much a declining force comparative to the teams they've produced in the past, yet still have more than enough juice to comfortably win the EPL.

It's reckoned that half the clubs in the Premiership will have revenue problems next season, as season ticket sales are expected to be down. The championship is paradoxically thriving, that's because it's very difficult to predict who is going come out top season.

Does anyone really expect United, City and Chelsea to be out the top four? The only interest is the possibility of Spurs, or perhaps even Liverpool, displacing Arsenal, but even that seems unlikely.

The English game has used TV money to cover up substantial structural problems for a while now. Rather than have the sport as a grass-roots affair, it relied on the bread-and-circuses approach. It has to compete with other hyped media events and I reckon the Olympics will have an adverse effect on the interest in the game next season.

Couldn't agree more. The number of times you hear the shout "Away!" to defenders in kids games is unbelievable. At times I have watched my son play on a park that is far too big and by the time the striker reaches the opposition box he's too knackered to shoot!

I think the main problem is well established clubs that boys want to play for and "win medals" where the emphasis appears to be "win at all costs" resulting is some skill-less football that's painful to watch. Get rid of the dinosaurs coaches and we may see some improvement. Problem is, it all costs money.

Sylar

I think it's quite silly to describe them as a "declining force". They have some quality players in their squad and some very impressive youngsters coming through as well. Their youth setup isn't perhaps as good as, say, Arsenal, but players like Evans, Gibson and the younger guys they've signed in Anderson, Fabio, Rafael and Hernandez means it's likely they're going to be challenging for many years to come.

They won the League and arrived in the Champions League final without having lost in Europe. I accept that the Premiership has been a low standard this year and Man Utd have had a pretty poor away record, but their home record was impeccable.

Thinking back over the past 5 years, other than Ronaldo and Pique (who wasn't having the best of times in the EPL), I can't see which massive quality players they've lost and haven't replaced, as guys such as Nani (as much of a cheating prick as he is), Hernandez and Valencia have stepped up to the plate and added a new option.

Signed, a Man Utd "hater".

Regardless of the result, I would not have been making any posts on here on Saturday night. I've had no access to the internet at all since I left last Thursday and had no time to go to any internet cafes or anything like that.

Anyhow, onto the game. Absolutely no problem with the outcome of the final. Man Utd had a very good start in the opening 10 minutes or so and it took a wee while for Barcelona to get going. I thought that once United got their equaliser, they finished the first half quite strongly.

However the second half was extremely one-sided and there was only one team involved in the second 45 minutes. It could have ended up being 6 or 7-1 in the end.

It's no disgrace that United lost 3-1 to Barcelona as they are the greatest club side in the world by some considerable distance. The way in which they play football is what every club in the world should aspire to.

Barcelona fully deserve to have won the Champions League title this year and good luck to them. All I can say is that if Sir Alex Ferguson has anything to do with it, Manchester Utd will simply come back next year bigger and stronger.

Being the second best club side in the continent of Europe isn't bad for a club which is supposedly in decline and which is apparently over-rated if you listen to certain people in the media and elsewhere.
