Being that I spend so much time in the cinema these days, I've grown to appreciate just how much a good soundtrack can save or add to a film.

The soundtrack for Tron (performed entirely by Daft Punk), The Social Network (Trent Reznor) and most recently Hanna (Chemical Brothers) have really impressed me of late. The soundtrack for Donnie Darko was also one which impressed me. Hell, Twilight is a god awful film series for the most part, but the soundtrack for the first and second films were pretty damned impressive.

These are obviously quite recent examples - anyone have good soundtracks they can recall/recommend which really added to a film?

Natural Born Killers is still the best soundtrack out there.

Other good ones:

Fight Club
O Brother Where Art Thou
Grosse Pointe Blank
Amores Perros
The Crow

Bladerunner.

Great work by Vangelis, and definitely adds to the whole atmosphere of the film.

All of these are excellent.

However, as much as I like them, nothing for me can approach the genius of Ennio Morricone.

For any Pearl Jam fans, Eddie Vedders soundtrack to "Into the Wild" is pretty good.

Fantastic film too.

Some of the late John Barry's soundtracks for films such as:
Goldfinger
Midnight Cowboy
Out of Africa
Dance With Wolves

Just realised not really a recommendation as everyone knows these...

The Firm (the one base on the John Grisham novel, not the football related one!) truly stands out for me.

Ry Cooder is the master of the film soundtrack. Southern Comfort, Paris Texas, Crossroads, big role in Buena Vista Sociak Club as well.

But the ultimate soundtrack movie is American Grafitti. Even if you dont like the genre its a classic, every song seems to work.
