Given the history between the two countries, I am surprised the visit is going ahead, especially the intended stop at Croke Park.

Thank goodness it is then. The minority bampots on either side shouldn't be allowed to derail an expression of friendship between inter-dependent neighbours.

Speaking to Irish people on holiday, they were really pleased that Brenda is going over. They were embarassed about the activities of the dissident groups.

I suppose, they are mature enough as a nation to want to be friends with their near neighbours and that this visit is a way of moving on. I think they need all the friends they can get with their economy in such a state. (As do we.)

80,000 people at Croke Park at the england-ireland rugby game 2 seasons ago were completely silent and respectful during 'god save the queen, which is quite incredible given Liz's own grandfather gave the go-ahead to put down the easter rising- and so indirectly was responsible for the original bloody sunday.

The REAL Irish are thankfully much more forward-looking than their plastic counterparts.

Was it not her grandfather? Her father would only be 21 at the time, and I'd be surprised if he had any real responsibility for decisions like that.
