Probably one of the few professionals who drove the ball like us amateurs.

The pro's of today can also thank Seve for the noughts on their pay-cheques.

Very sad news. Golf has lost a true legend.

What a terrible week. 54 is no age at all nowadays.

A remarkable golfer who had a huge influence on the popularity golf enjoys in Europe and beyond today. Some of the positions he got himself into were ridiculous but the shots to get himself out of them were genius.

RIP Seve.

A true gent and always had time to talk golf. The European tour and European golf in general have a lot to thank Seve for. It was probably him that got me interested in the game too. Golf has lost a true genius.Sad day indeed.

Had the pleasure of being at St Andrews for The Open in 1984 and witnessed this fantastic golfer and human being at his absolute best! Thanks for the memories Seve and for leading European golf to the forefront of World golf at a time when the Yanks were thought to rule all! RIP!

Sad news indeed .
A real "Man amongst Men" and a true " legend" !!

This quote from Peter Allis says it all for me
" He was a fighter - feisty, skilful, cheeky and loveable. When Seve was in a good mood the world was happy"

RIP :not worth

I grew up watching Seve Ballesteros on the telly and loved every second of it- the word legend is used these days to people who have done very little but Seve earned that status with what he's done for the sport of Golf.

R.I.P T0 A GREAT MAN

I stood close by him once waiting for my son to collect his autograph. He had an "aura" about him that was unique. He was genuinely interested in the kids clustered round him and made sure everyone got his signature before walking away.

Woods may have won more titles and be technically a better player but nobody of this era will come close to Seve - he will live on for future generations to marvel at.
