Not heard anything about Hibs but was on the bbc that Stranraer are supposed to be getting a link up with Twente. Wouldn't mind it if we took part if Twente played but if its another smaller team then wouldn't interest me as much.

Rod will be rubbing his hands. No hotel bills as the players can stay with CC's relatives.

Could (should?) we not be looking to do something like this in Edinburgh?? (at Hibs)

Maybe get a Dutch team, and lower top flight German/Italian/Spanish/Portugese teams or even teams from the 2nd division in those countries and get them over to Easter Road for a "tournament"

Hibs, Twente, St Pauli, Lecce for example? (just first names that popped in my head)

A big selling point would be Edinburgh itself, its a great city to come to and its not like you're inviting these teams to come to some run down piss hole of a town or city so surely we could attract 3 teams to come over and play. We also have East Mains where they can train.

It would also be "european" football I suppose in a season when we're not going to get any and surely would make a few quid for the club, maybe not loads of money but a few quid, like six pounds or something! :greengrin

Its maybe worth looking into? 4 games over 2 days? You buy a "day ticket" which gets you both matches. If there were a couple of "interesting" teams involved I would definitely make the effort to go along.

Would be good to meet their fans. Great club and supporters.

I was going through old programmes the other night and found one from the 80s, featuring Hibs, Hearts, Man City and Coventry. Something similar would be decent.

Because of the early start by the SPL there'll be little chance of any games never mind a tournament.

Duck that, their all wannabe celtic fans and they'd no doubt all turn up in celtic tops. In fact you'd probably find a few smellies in amongst them if they played at ER.

A tournament type thing at ER does sound like a good idea though, if we can get a couple of decent teams involved.

Disagree totally. Unless you like to socialise with German's in Celtic tops; I thought I was at Parkhead for moment when I visited St Pauli last year (to see them get pumped off Eintracht Frankfurt).

Mind you, I do tend to share their political and social views, but remember that - before the mid 80's - they were not the fun-loving bunch that they are nowadays.

Isn't there a clause, albeit one designed for Rantic, that allows a club to postpone one of the earlier SPL fixtures in order to take part in a 'pre-season' tournament?

Must prefer to stick around dull, windswept sectarian ridden-towns for my pre-season action, thanks you.

A perfect continuation of a highly exciting season, a preseason tournament in Stranraer with northern Irish clubs. That'll bring the passion to ER and I just can't wait.

Does anyone have any dates when this would potentially happen in Stranraer?

what the fek! Go read about them, its celtic who cling to them. If all clubs and fans were remotely like st pauli the football world would be a far better place. Go read!

they dont ALL wear bloody celtic shirts ffs. Went to see Bohs Praha last year and, good lord, there were people wearing celtic shirts! get over it! Clubs wearing green will always attract those followers of other clubs in similar colours. Its the infamous hibs net celtic obsession time again.

St Pauli, bigger bunch of sell-outs than Barca.

The most apparent socialist anti-capitlist club, doing colabs with Nike....

Forza Eintracht ;)

The tournament is the Stena Cup, scheduled for weekend of 16 & 17 July. Teams confirmed are hosts Stranraer, Coleraine, Glenavon plus "another as yet unnamed Scottish league club". I'd be surprised if it was Hibs though - more likely to be a lower league side (mind you, until that wee run of 7 or 8 games after the new signings came in in January we might well have met that criteria! Maybe next year the way we're going..........................)
