Hi folks,
Was having a discussion with someone the other day regarding the idiosyncracies of the tv deal in the spl. I was under the impression it was arranged as Rangers and Celtic get 50 pc of the cash (as they are perennially 1st and 2nd) and the remaining teams scrap over the remainder. Can someone please confirm this is correct or do teams get paid by individual game? Help appreciated, ta.

'+ How is commercial and broadcasting revenue distributed between SPL clubs?
All revenues generated by the SPL are effectively put into one pot. A support payment to the SFL and parachute payments to recently relegated clubs are then deducted from that pot. All associated costs of running the SPL are also deducted.

The remaining amount is split two ways to the member clubs: 48% is divided equally between all 12 clubs while 52% is distributed to teams dependent upon their final league position. The higher up the table that a club finishes, the more money they will receive.'

I think 24% of the 52% kept behind for final league positions go to 1st and 2nd.

Hope this helps;

“The Basic Facility Fee Pool”, 48% of the Net Commercial Revenues, which shall be shared equally amongst the Clubs participating in the League during the Season in question; and “The Supplementary Facility Fee Pool”, 52% of the Net Commercial Revenues, which shall be paid to the Clubs participating in the League during the Season in question in accordance with their respective league positions at the end of that Season.

I saw somewhere that bottom place was worth about £500,000 and that each .5% jump was about £65K-obviously depends on all the various commercial deals-the largest being TV.This is why they're investigating an SPL channel again.

Yeah that's roughly the figure I heard too. On that basis there must be £13 million in the pot to be divided. On that basis if we reach 7th spot then we collect £975K, 8th spot £910K, 9th spot £845K and so on.

I could be completely wrong and expect to be told so if that's the case. :wink:

The gap between 2nd and 3rd is unsurprisingly huge and disproportionate. How did they get this through?

The big issue is the big difference from finishing 2cd and 3rd. That's where the big imbalance is. It is set up to give more money to the old firm. Sadly the SPL will continue to be so uncompetive until tv money and gate money is shared more equally

With those two darlings? :greengrin
Surely though the clubs at the time (not including us as we didn't feature) must have allowed this?

Surely they didn't sign something that went on for eternity and it would make sense that these kind of matters were reviewed every few years or so. If that's the case then we are also responsible for giving into the Old Firm's excessive demands.

Petrie get it sorted.

Thanks for the replies, some interesting info. Couple of points. Do you think any league in europe is structured so unfairly in terms of tv cash? And also isn't it ironic that the two unspeakable teams continue to complain about lack of tv cash in comparison to 'unfashionable' epl clubs?
