...was taken off injured playing for the Ireland U-21s last night - went off on a stretcher, didn't look great at the time I understand.

Anyone have any word on how serious an injury it is?

King had used all his seven substitutes when Richie Towell felt the full force of a tackle ten minutes from time and left the field on a stretcher.

Impact injury is the best we could hope for. Hopefully he recovers we need him badly.

I've heard that Templeton is struggling with an injury and may miss the Derby.

If he can get fit, Thicot kept Templeton quiet in the new years derby.

There's always stories like that before the Derby, but somehow the player always seems to make it.

Typical FJK. Every player he says is out always makes a miraculous recovery on the morning of the game.

I corrected that for you.

It doesn't matter who their manager is, they always play it that way.

It shouldn't however make any difference to us. We should be prepared for anything.

Very sad news about Richie Towell. We can only hope that the injury isn't as bad as what it sounds at present.

Agree, just what we didn't need going into Derby match. Crucial 4 games for us before split, and he will be a loss......

Surprised only one person has brought up Thicot. He was our best player on the 1st of Jan, playing against Templeton.

I just get nervous with Thicot though, but Hart is not much better. The good thing with Thicot as he seems to do well against the Yams.

Terrible news though, i was telling my dad what my XI would be for next week and was gutted when he said Towell is most likely out.

Played in bounce game , took a nasty one looks like bullet hole in heel, so not sure, but has been training! Bounce game ended 4.0 to Hibs, Thicot played central mid field and I hear did well.IMHO not a defender but a good midfieder, given a run could do really well.

Hibs were today anxiously awaiting the outcome of medical checks on Richie Towell after the teenage defender was stretchered off during the Republic of Ireland's Under-21 friendly with Portugal.

The on-loan Celtic star "felt the full force" of a tackle ten minutes from the end of the game, leaving his side a man short as all their substitutes had been used.

Portugal exploited the situation to the full, winning the game with goals in the 89th and 94th minutes.

Initial reports suggested 19-year-old Towell had suffered no more than a "dead leg", a diagnosis Hibs boss Colin Calderwood will undoubtedly hope is correct with the third Edinburgh derby of the season only six days away

The prospect of seeing Hart play is indeed frightning. Hope Towell is fit for the derby. Templeton is an over-rated steaming pile of pish anyway.

Probably fair to assume that the Scotsman's unattributed "quotes" in this article have been taken straight from this thread.

From todays scotsman:

The on-loan Celtic star was stretchered off with ten minutes to go as the Irish Under-21 side faced Portugal in a friendly on Friday night, but it appears the initial diagnosis that he'd suffered no more than a "dead leg" have proved accurate, the youngster having returned to training with his Hibs team-mates yesterday.
