To All Clubs
Dear Sir/Madam,
Snoods (Neck Scarves)
The International Football Association Board held its Annual meeting at the Celtic Manor Hotel in Newport, Wales on Saturday 5th March.
At the meeting, the Board decided to prohibit, with immediate effect, the wearing of snoods (or neck scarves) by players. It was considered that such items did not constitute part of the basic equipment of players as set out in Law 4 – Players’ Equipment, and that, moreover, they could constitute a danger to the wearer in the event that an opponent chose to pull the snood.
I would ask you therefore to inform your technical and playing staffs of this decision to ensure that such garments are not worn by players.
Please note that this letter is being copied to the referee movement.
The full decisions of the International Football Association Board will be communicated to you once they are made available by FIFA.
Yours sincerely,
John Fleming
