Hi guys,

My wife is in the final year of her uni course and as such needs to do a dissertation, which of course involves gathering data. She needs 100 people to fill in the below survey and I would be much obliged if some of you guys could do it.

Just click on the below link, shouldn't take you any longer than 5 minutes.

Thanks in advance:thumbsup:

Can you post any info on fairtrade? I only know roughly going by the name but don't know what impact it has at source.

I bought some fairtrade fruit juice once and it was rotten.

Hi!

I am a fourth year marketing student at Heriot-Watt University. As part of my dissertation, I am investigating consumer perception of fair trade and its impact on purchasing intention. To gain first hand data I have compiled a questionnaire. It would be much appreciated if you could fill this out. It should only take about five minutes.

Thank you.

I usually charge for this sort of thing, but am feeling generous.

Done, have to say that I find that fairtrade produce is often very expensive given the quality of the product, the quality is very good, but you're talking about almost £3 on a medium sized bar of chocolate, which is more than a pint at the Union.

I covered Fair Trade in one of my business ethics modules at uni. It's quite interesting, we had to do an essay on "Is Fair Trade fair?". There are some arguments against Fair Trade (mainly by the Adam Smith Institute) but I thought it done more good than harm.

I've still got my essay if you want a read mate? Just PM me your email address and I'll send you it.

It's nothing too technical, it's about 2000 words and gives a description, some advantages and disadvantages/criticisms with my brief analysis.

I find fair trade stuff genreally good quality, and some places are replacing their "normal" products with fair trade, like Sainsburys bananas are now fairtrade.
If you're looking for reasonably priced fairtrade chocolate, go to the Co-op, they have a good range there too. They were/are the leading light when it comes to fairtrade products when it comes to Supermarket. They were selling a rnage of products before it became "fashionable". Dubble fairtrade chocolate is quite expensive for the product you get, but I suspect that's not down to the quality of the cocoa bean. I think it's more expensive beacuse it's a Comic relief product, rather than just a fairtrade product. Go to Nicholson St, there's a Co-op and an Oxfam shop there selling a range of products. If you're interested.

On my way home tonight I noticed this electronic sign on the road down from Murieston to Adambrae and it said "Welcome to Livingston, a fair trade town".

Never noticed that before and have no idea what it is meant to mean. Is it some trendy statement by our council

This doesn't really answer your question but here's an extract from the essay I wrote:

"Fair Trade as a concept has been around for over 40 years but it has only been since the late 1980s that there has been a formal labelling scheme. Initially there were many different Fair Trade labels until they were united when the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International (FLO) was formed in Germany. It was then the FLO who later launched the International Fairtrade Certification Mark which is recognised worldwide as the sign of a Fairtrade product(1). It is important to note that there is a difference between ‘Fair Trade’ and ‘Fairtrade’; ‘Fair Trade’ refers to the fair trade movement as whole and can be used to describe both labelled and unlabelled products as well as Alternative Trade Organizations(ATOs) and other ‘Fair Trade’ organisations while ‘Fairtrade’ is used to describe goods labelled and certified by the FLO(2)."

These are the sources mentioned:

The Fairtrade Foundation. History. Available at:
http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/what_is_fairtrade/history.aspx [Accessed: 5/11/09] (1)

Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International(FLO). FAQs. Available at: http://www.fairtrade.net/faqs.html?&no_cache=1 [Accessed: 6/11/09] (2)

Edit: By the way, I suspect it is just a trendy statement made by the council rather than actually being a "fair trade town" in the sense that every they use is from 'fair trade' organisations.

More than likely and our council tax will have paid thousands for that concept. Cant say I have noticed it either.

:tee hee:

As far as I understand it the only requirement for being able to describe yourself as a "fair trade town" is for the local council to serve fair trade coffee/biscuits/whatever at their council meetings.

Its just marketing.
