Yup. Went to the Pars after he left ER and had his knee wrecked by a nasty wee St Johnstone thug called (IIRC?) Pelosi.
Pettigrew was on our books as a youngster before he went to Motherwell, then Hearts.
Not a player, but....
....the great Willie McCartney managed Hearts from 1919 until 1935, when he resigned under pressure from the Hearts chairman and board who wanted someone more "hands-on".
After a year out of the game, he came to Hibs, where IIRC he didn't do TOO badly, holding the club together through WW2 and signing one or two decent players in the process - players like Gordon Smith, Bobby Combe, Lawrie Reilly, Eddie Turnbull and Wilie Ormond....
Hibs came second in both League and Cup in season 46-47, and were going well the following season when McCartney collapsed at a Scottish Cup tie and died later that night. Hugh Shaw, the club trainer, took the team on and they won the League that season with Rangers runners-up. Shaw completed the Famous Five by siging Nicker Johnstone the following season.
Gordon Smith played for both clubs as well, of course.

Yup. Stevie was a capture from the Hearts, too. :agree:
He was on their books, but I'm not sure whether he played for their first team - a bit like Pettigrew, but travelling in the opposite direction.

Peter Cormack was definitely at Tynie-he was expected to sign for them-quite a fuss when he joined us-as there was when Eric Stevenson did the same.
Ian Crawford a fine player-and guy-went the other way.

:agree:
Was he not registered to them on S-forms while playing for Tynecastle Boys' Club? He signed for us in 1963 - I think he was one of Walter Galbraith's last signings?
Stevie was with Edina Hearts, I think, and signed for us around the same time? I'm pretty sure he was on S-forms for Hearts too.
IIRC, Hearts considered Hibs had broken some sort of 'gentlemen's agreement' in signing these guys from Boys' Clubs that were unofficially feeders for Hearts - the same way Hutcheson Vale was seen as a feeder for us?

IIRC there were a few folk at the time who reckoned Joe Baker had initially been a trialist at Tynecastle before doing the decent thing.

Peter Cormack signed for Hibs on 18th August 1962 from Tynecastle Ath. and made his first team debut (scoring in a 2-1 defeat) on 24th November 1962 away to Airdrie - his next game was not until 26th October 1963.
Edward (Eric) Stevenson signed for Hearts from Edina Hearts on 18th June 1960 and subsequently signed for Hibs on 26th October 1960 making his first team debut on 8th October 1960 away to St Johnstone.

Neither Eric or Peter ever played for Yams. In both cases ( from memory ) the players had to fight to secure their release from PBS. Eric's case was particularly difficult & again, from memory, may have involved legal proceedings. Eric was known as The Rebel for many years after both for that action & his James Dean/Elvis style barnet!
PS, Brian, think there's a wee mistake above, you have Eric making his debut before he signed!

Should be 6th October
Eric was born on Christmas Day 1942 so he would have been under 18 when he signed for Hearts - maybe that's how he got away :dunno:

I reckon you're correct with that. :agree:
According to the registration records Thomson Allan signed for Meadowbank on 24th Janaury 1979 and played 2 games before signing for Hearts on 23rd February 1979.

Roy Barry signed c1975. Stayed for a short time. I think Turnbull saw him as someone who could provide a bit of steel in the centre of defence. Jim Black was released and Barry and Derek Spalding stepped into the breach. Neither lasted long.

If we'd had Roy Barry instead of Jim Black throughout the early 70's we'd have won more trophies than we did IMHO. Jim Black AFAIK is still stuck in Dixie Dean's back pocket!

Dixie Deans almost destroyed Hibs on his own during the period he was up against Cilla.
