I subscribe to the Mayo/Kermode films podcast on Radio 5 Live every Friday and I enjoy listening to it in the gym etc.

However, I'm just about up to date now so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations of other regular interesting downloads, preferably free!

Obvious suggestion but the Guardian football podcasts on a Monday and Thursday are great.

The Bugle with Andy Zaltzman and John Oliver is a particular favourite - comedy/current affairs stuff.

That's pretty much all I listen to so would be interested in other recommendations.

The Football Ramble is great. It's really just four guys talking about football but they're pretty knowledgable and it's a good laugh.

Once you get to know all the 'in' jokes then you start laughing along with them.

Radio 4 Choice of the Week never fails to be compelling listening. Beautifully put together, fascinating and a real variety of topics every week. It updates every Friday. Perfect for airport delays and bedtime listening! :agree:

If you like films then check out the slashfilmcast, filmspotting and the creative screenwriting podcast. They're all american, but pretty good (and free!).

Its all down to what interests you, I suppose. Amost any topic you can think of has umpteen podcast options some good, not so good. I listen to loads - here's a few that are consistently good, in my opinion:

BBC:
Friday Night Comedy Podcast
History of the World in a 100 Objects

History:
The History Network
Binge Thinking History

Rational Thinking/Skepticism
Righteous Indignation
Skeptics with a K
Strange Quarks
Skeptoid
Quackcast
Point of Inquiry

Agree with Twocarpets- History of the World in 100 Objects is one of the best radio series ever in my opinion. Even if you think you're not all that interested in history.

The Guardian's Tech podcast and James Richardsons football podcasts are good as well.

You will all find this ridiculous and I can't quite believe I'm openly admitting it but - how do you access/listen to a podcast?

Assuming you have an ipod, its dead easy.

Go to the iTunes store, click on "podcasts", and Bobs yer aunts live in lover. Search around for whatever you fancy and download exactly as you would if you were downloading music. If its something that regularly has a new episdoe (like some of the BBC stuff), you can set it to automatically download new episodes 99.9% of podcasts are free too.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Mr Carpets that's very much appreciated. I owe you a pint for that. I do indeed have an ipod and in fact Santa brought me an ipad too so this seems just the ticket. Are you 'Tough on Santa, Tough on the Causes of Santa' as you are with eg homeopathy?

Nah. Santa has proven his efficacy.

Another Podcast that is worth having a look it is another BBC one - "In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg". Not every episode will be of interest, but loads of it is good. In fact the BBC in general has great podcast ouput

In Our Time is brilliant; but it is one of the Top Five Nippiest Things in the Universe that you can't download previous episodes :agree:

My mate does one called 'The Stand Ups...' and it's all football chat with him and 3 other guys. It's free and pretty funny.

I've only had the chance to listen to a handfull of them but every one was fascinating.

I had no idea there was the facility to get them all.

Bin Eastenders and get two of these programs listened to instead.

You should be able to put a big chunk of episodes on a 8meg iPod and still have plenty of room for lots of of other stuff. Go on the radio4 site and have a look.

Big fans of podcasts.

I'd echo the recommendations of The Bugle - it's really quite good especially if you give it a few listens (and any guest appearance from The American is superb).

The Word podcast is good for music / entertainment stuff, especially if you are a fan of the magazine.

I also get the Mayo/Kermode podcast along with Fighting Talk and Off the Ball.

I'm an Arsenal fan and The Tuesday Club with Alan Davies, Ian Stone et al is really quite fantastically funny.

And Desert Island Discs is a good one - really dependent on the guest, but Kirsty Young's voice is oh so alluring too.

I have also subscribed to that for quite a while despite not being an Arsenal fan. It's a hoot every week without fail. Alan Davies' awful impressions are immense!
