Does anyone have any idea what sort of costs are involved in repairing guttering around a roof?

Had an offer on our first house accepted, first home report was fine. New home report says there is damage to the guttering and it's leaking (on the outside of the house). Estate agent says it would require scaffolding and could be up to £1000 to fix....

1/ surely that could be sorted with a ladder
2/ £1000.....aye right.
3/ why should we have to pay it? why not the downstairs neighbour as well?

If whole sections of cast iron guttering (heavy) need to be replaced it's a bit tricky from a ladder. Would normally be a shared responsibility unless the title deeds say otherwise.

If the damage was caused before you move(d) in then the previous owner should be responsible, as for the price you've been quoted it's not unreasonable. If the guttering is plastic and you're a bit of a handyman you could be able to do it yourself. Food luck.

Agree with both points, the second about doing it yourself, its possible not as daunting as it might seem, the majority of guttering these days is plastic, easy to find out how much that would cost you from Wickes or B&Q.

Oh and good luck, dunno what food luck is! :greengrin

If it's plastic guttering bung the local window cleaner £50, probably an end cap loose or a gasket out of place or even just needing a clean out, at worse a length of UPVC guttering would cost you £25 tops for a 5m length. If it's cast it's a different ball game but silicone sealer is your friend :agree::greengrin.

For a £1000 I'd expect to replace all soffits, facia, downpipes and guttering.
