Singles out Stack as a major influence on the team tonight (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/9384278.stm). Is he now the permanent no.1?

Yep think he did himself proud, good kicking/throwing and just looked confident. Was good to hear him talking the youngsters at the back through the game and he definitely seemed to settle them.

Yogi mentioned this quality in him as well actually...

Didn't really put a foot wrong IMO

One rush of blood just before half time which could have proved costly but other than that he did well.

Should be #1 til the summer. Unless the Czech lad amazes in training.

If the St Mirren boy had scored with lob(like he should have)in the first half after Stack came flying out for that header, both Stack and CC would have been crucified on here. Just saying...

If Maka had done what Stack did last night there would have been a nine or ten page thread on here slaughtering him as having nothing whatsoever to offer any team (even pub league ) in terms of goalkeeping ability but reminding us all that he was "good with the kids"!

Last night was great overall but Stack is not our goalkeeping answer going forward IMO!

Was shocked to see him take a cross in the second half last night as he normally doesn't come out till darkness prevails due to a serious aversion to crosses! :cool2:

I'd like to see the new keeper in action before deciding whether it's him or Mark Brown as the preferred keeper longer term. However, if Mark Brown has fallen out with CC/the Club then we have different circumstances to consider!

Stacks the kind of keeper that needs a long run in the team with a settled defence that are comfortable dealing with crosses, because thats his weakness. Whoevers in goals should get the gloves permanently, enough of the rotation policy please.

Hope so.
Bosses the defence around, need somebody vocal in the team.

Could even see him being a captain, massive influence. Between him, Murray and maybe even Hanlon for me.:flag:

Stack's our best all round keeper, IMHO. And he's a bit mental, which is a major plus point in a goalkeeper, I feel.:greengrin

Does anyone REALLY know what the state of play is regarding Brown? Or are some of us just making it up as we go along?

Stack has his weaknesses, but a lack of communication with his defence isn't one of them. He also has the great advantage that when he does make an error of judgement (as all keepers do from time to time) he doesn't dwell on it. He also takes no nonsense from anyone.

If he can stay fit I would be happy to see him stay on. Stack, Brown and Divis would be a handy trio of keepers to have for next season. I think Smith should move on, for himself and for the club.

I don't think CC will make a decision until a lot closer to the end of the season. As I understand it, we have first refusal on Divis if we decide we want him.

Thought Stack played well last night and his kicking was generally spot on - his experience is also a big factor with such a young back four in front of him - was interesting to see him getting young Towell up and off the ground after he'd taken a bad knock in the dying minutes of the game to ensure no injury time was added on - cool head - apart from one instance, that is.

Intresting to hear calderwood saying last night players will be in today then off till monday. They should be in for training imo on saturday to hit home the defeat by ayr as we should have been playing a scottish cup tie this weekend

You are well aware that is nonsesne.

Maka was treated as a hero when he arrived and for the first wee while.

He started to ger slaughtered only after he had made mistake after mistake and showed no signs of learning.

You'll find Stack got it too for his error against Hearts at Tynie.

Last night he had to try and take control of that situation because Hanlon hesitated. could have caused a goal, yes, and if he does that every week or even several times a game then he'll be next to get stick.

At least with Stack the defenders know that he doesn't come out more often than not, hence they can prepare for crosses knowing that they have to deal with it themselves. This eliminates any of the uncertainty that is the main troublemaker at the back.

Hopefully the next time Hanlon finds himself in that position - because it happens a lot in football - he'll be ready to clear it rather than try to coax Stack off his line.

There were two Hibs players on the line covering for Stacka, so even if the lob had been on target (like it should have been), a goal wasn't guaranteed.

Problem was that Stacka's header was so misplaced - what on earth does the goalkeeping coach do all week at East Mains?

Disagree. The defeat to Ayr should have been dealt with at the time and then put behind us.

The idea that we should undermine the positives of a hard-earned league victory by casting up past losses is crazy.

Agree 100%. Lets build the confidence and the feel good factor going into the next game. The players deserve a weekend break just like they deserved the critisism over past few weeks.

Dont think it was Stacks fault, he had to do something, Hanlon was leaving the ball and the St Mirren boy was running onto it. If the St Mirren buy had lobbed it would have been down to Hanlon not dealing with it initially.

Time to move on me thinks, looked like a different team last night and I think CC has got this spot on, let the players relax a bit and have them back in sharp on monday with a week to prepare. Apart from anything, gives the new boys time to get their new homes and stuff sorted.

Stack has the right mentality or personality, call it what you will for a goal keeper. He does not appear to have the cat like agility that the goal keepers of our imaginations have.

Listening to the post match interviews on the way home last night after the game, it was nice to hear Lennon give some praise to the way Hibs played. He complimented the setup and the "arena" that St Mirren were playing in. Not too often do you hear praise from the opposition Manager.
