Good to see some sense at last!!
That means not playing Dickov or Stephens at CB, but playing Murray where he now belongs given the re-shaping of midfield!!
Divis
Spoony. Hanlon. Murray. Booth.
Miller Scott Palsson. Thornhill Galbraith
Sodje
Towel injury on Sunday, maybe too early for him
CC clearly not happy with defence on Sunday
Murray gives us a bit leadership

GK: Divis - commanding keeper at 6'5', might just relieve the pressure on the defence at set-pieces.
RB: Towell - bit of energy, hasn't done too badly since his debut and long throw could be a weapon.
LB: Hanlon - played well against United in December in this role. I like Booth, but he's better going forward than defending. Hanlon is a more complete full-back.
CB: Murray - experience and a bit of leadership. His lack of vitesse and dexterity won't be exposed quite so readily.
CB: Dickoh - on a shoogly peg but offers a bit of aggression. Would give him another chance before Thicot comes in
RW: Wotherspoon - get him settled in this position and he'll improve. He's got the dribbling ability and the creativity, plus he'll protect Towell.
LW: Riordan - I think he'll benefit from having a more industrious midfield, and he'll enjoy feeding off a target man in Sodje.
CM: Scott - full of drive, energy and gets forward.
CM: Palsson - like Scott, can do the dirty work, and sits in, allowing others to go forward. Really important against a stuffy midfield like St Mirren's.
CM: Thornhill - Calderwood obviously has high hopes for him. Supposed to be a guy who breaks beyond the striker.
CF: Sodje - I've seen him in the flesh, last year when Charlton beat Bristol Rovers, where he scored. Brute of a man, fairly pacey and will offer a presence. Definite starter.

With St Mirren more than likely to play a defensive 4-5-1, I would hope that we retain Booth and Towell in the full back areas so we can get forward.
Would like to see Derek come back in, perhaps alongside Duffy to start with, leaving Sodje as an option from the bench. New keeper needs to start IMO, and the midfield needs to be kept together so they can develop an understanding. I thought in midfield we looked strong v Dundee Utd. It was the quietest I have seen their midfield in a long time against us.

A lack of width I know, but St Mirren are quite soft through the middle in my opinion and we could really do some damage by driving into the heart of their defence.

Usually like the way you set ot your teams prettyboy, but does that formation not cry out "scared to lose" against "we can win" ?
Not sure that we will need to play such a defensive midfield, and for me, having someone in front of our defensive pairing could work against us tactically.
I think we should be positive right from the off and play an attacking 4-4-2. Palsson v Cregg will be interesting and I would rather see Cregg negated as he can be a right nippy bar steward at times (with a point to prove). Win the midfield battles early and I can see a convincing Hibs win.

If Riordan is still AWOL then play Galbraith instead of Riordan and Wotherspoon instead of Thornhill and go 4-4-2.
Either way that team should be more than good enough to beat St Mirren. I predict this game will be the turning point in our season with a very comfortable 2-0 win.
I'm not expecting miracle from Sodje but as long as he can win some headers/flick ons, he can hold the ball up and create space for the other striker(s) then we should be ok.
At this point we need a team that can challenge in the mid to lower end of the SPL and I think our squad is more than capable of that. Down to you now CC.

I'm amazed so many people are wanting Murray at central defence, i know Dickoh hasn't exactly been steady at the back but he's not had any horrors like Murray against rangers or when he was skinned by the quick feet of a 36 year old mark roberts at Ayr.
IMO we need to get and keep a settled defence and unless we manage to bring someone else in our best central pairing has to be Dickoh and Hanlon.

The centre of defence needs to be sorted. I think Hanlon is an excellent prospect but has tooo much weight on his shoulders. A wee rest will do him the world of good. Thicot needs a chance to show what he can do in his favoured positioned. he's never been given it since he came to Hibs. looks to have a bit composure and may just do a job for us. If we can get him playing well maybe we can bring Hanlon back in beside him if Murray struggles as he has in midfield. will give Murray a chance there for now as i think his experience and desire is needed with the young full backs in the side.

I hope he's still fit - I think it's a bit unfair to launch Divis straight into such a huge game when he's not been playing regularly.

Whatever formation we play if Sodje is up front we need wide players who can put in a decent cross for him to attack, for me that rules out Miller as wide right. Maybe Spoony or Galbraith out wide (although I don't think either have set the heather on fire), not sure what position Thornhill play's best. :flag:

Cant believe the number of people picking Miller, his performance against United was an absolute disgrace. No ability and no fight. Would go -
Divis
Thornhill Dickoh Hanlon Booth
Wotherspoon Palsson Scott Galbraith
Sodje Riordan/Duffy
Dont really rate Dickoh but at least its keeping a consistant back line, it really isnt going to improve if hes changing it every single game, and if no new CB is coming in think we are stuck with that. Dont really like 451 either, think it results in the CBs lumping it more and missing out the midfield which is daft.

I specifically mean competitive football - the guy wasn't getting a regular game at his previous club (God only knows how our scouts found him) and he's only been getting bounce games here. Good practice for fitness, but not reflective of a properly competitive game.

Miller done allright. Dickoh was the worst player on the park and responsible for all 3 goals to some extent but you've picked him.

Ive said I dont rate Dickoh, but I dont really see any other options we have. Galbraith and Wotherspoon werent great but at least they were getting involved in the game.
All I recall Miller doing was getting on the ball and fannying about with it before losing it, shocking passing and making no effort to tackle. Awful player.

Galbraith hardly touched the ball - his telling contribution was to blaze an absolute sitter over the bar from 8 yards. Other than that, his actions on the park were defined by his lack of any action, leaving Booth exposed for the duration of the game.
Dickoh was at fault (not solely) for the goals - of course we have options - Murray at CH, the young lad Stephens - not great, but they can't possibly be any worse.
Thornhill definitely hasn't done anything to oust young Towell, who has been solid since coming in.

Galbraith was getting on the ball, wasnt the best with it but dont think it was bad for a team that insist on hoofing it. Without any other sort of wide left player I also cant think of an alternative?
Murray who is past it (shown up by a 35 year old, second division player) or Stephens, whos never really played and would mean the average age of our defence is about 20? Think not bringing in a CB was a massive mistake but thats what we are left with (and its not at all convincing).
