NEWCASTLE United Phil Airey could be the next teenager to be allowed out on loan by Alan Pardew.

The striker is understood to be wanted by Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood, Chris Hughton’s former No2 at St James’s Park.

Having let Matthew Grieve, James Tavernier and Joan Edmundsson join lower league clubs for first-team experience, Pardew is willing to consider a loan for 19-year-old Airey.

“(Alan) let youngsters go out on loan when he was at West Ham, and to be honest, I fully support him,” said reserve-team coach Peter Beardsley.

“They need to play football, and if they can, like Matthew Grieves at Stockport and Tav and Joan at Gateshead, then great.

“I think Phil Airey is another one, ideally, they would like to go (on loan).

“The good thing is they’re going to hand pick where they want them to go. They’re not going to send them somewhere where there’s going to be no benefit, and they’re going to have to play.

“We wouldn’t send them to a Wimbledon of old, where they just hump it down the pitch. That’s not what we do – they have to go to the right club.”

Well that rules us out then :agree:
