Lionel Messi has won the inaugural FIFA Ballon d'Or, which is an amalgamation of the FIFA Player of the Year and the Ballon d'Or.

Truly deserving - best player on the planet by a significant distance these past 2 seasons :agree:

Messi is the best player in the world but Iniesta I think should have been world player of the year for 2010. Apart from his consistency at club level he was the best player in Spain's world cup side.

To be honest, all 3 of the players who were nominated had equal cases for winning it. I thought Iniesta might have snuck it as well, as he was superb for Spain - scoring the winning goal of a World Cup final is also not something achieved everyday!

injuries prevented him having a full campaign last season, possibly the reason

I think in the calendar year of 2010 Messi scored 60 odd goals??

incredible; if you think of all the assist he makes too, and quality of his finishing etc.

Iniesta IMO would have been the won to win it ahead of him if anyone, World Cup performances were outstanding and the bottle to win it for them etc. (and make my hols cracking in spain :greengrin)

Watching Messi each week though is well worth Sky TV payments alone.
