Apparently a few eyebrows have been raised as regards the lack of knighthoods for Messrs. Forsyth, Beckham and Cowell.
Does anyone think that any of these three are worthy?

Forsyth MAYBE but not the other two.
Beckham in the future depending what he does in the next few years.
Cowell? Nah.

Nope. Honours, if they have to exist, should be handed out for dedication to improving human life, public service or out of the ordinary charity work - not for being able to present a TV programme, kick a ball or make shedloads of money for yourself.

What is this list you speak of? The Peoples Republic(s) of Leith and the wider Scotland beyond don't recognise this sham for anything more than a pantominic annual ****abootathon for backpatting of those who generally do **** all of note, marginally less important than the almighty uber-being handing the ***** things out.
John Lennon had the right idea ; send the ***** thing back, return to sender :greengrin

I agree entirely.
However I do quite like the hand wringing that goes on when those deemed worthy (by others) don't get the nod.
A couple of times last year, I heard it suggested that it was akin to a national disgrace that Brucie hadn't been knighted.

I do think that some sort of award is in order for those who have given something to the Community; like the Scout Leader in Leith who has been around for decades.

You say that like anyone can do those things, that's a bit disrepectful to the hard work that takes these people to the top of the tree. The sacrifices that they have had to make are just as great as some guy who was born into the right family and ends up a senior civil servant.

My point is that the folk who are dedicating themselves to making money, kicking a ball or presenting live TV are doing it for themselves so I can't for the life of me see why we should be 'honouring' them. The people I want to see being honoured are doing something for purely altruistic reasons.

Disappointed that they never took away Alan Sugar's knighthood on account of being a *unt.

This idea could maybe be extended - have a limited number of people who are awarded these various honours but they don't get to keep the honour for life - they have to be re-elected in a public vote every year or that, depending on whether or not they have continued their good works over the preceding twelve months.
It would combine two Great British obsessions - the class system and reality game shows. Proceeds could go towards buying minibuses for the Variety Club :agree:
There's every likelihood that Cheryl Cole would end up being elected Supreme Leader of the World but at least the people would have spoken.
