Reminding myself to set up a crystal ball gazing poll.

Costs forecast at £2.3 billion.

Max 6 years to build.

So that'll be £4 billion, 9 years to build, with a strike from the workers half way through production.

Total farce already.

Why on earth this is being built with public money I have no idea.

Spec what you need, put it out to tender, give winner 30 year rights to charge tolls (limited by law).

Outcome:
Bridge that meets requirements (current design has been scaled down already to make it 'affordable')
Bridge built on time
Bridge built with no risk to public purse re overruns/delays
£2.3bn of Scottish Government spending that can be allocated to other uses

Not sure what the list of benefits on the current proposals are apart from the bridge will be free at point of use (although this is easily discounted by the fact that every person in Scotland will be paying for it).

And graduates should pay higher tolls as they have statistically fancier cars.
