Were these first team players? How much of the Hibernian first team was permanently poached by Celtic at that time?

Depends what you classify as their first match - the opening game at Celtic Park was Hibernians v Cowlairs.

The first Celtic friendly game against Rangers - the team is listed as:

1 Michael Dolan (Drumpellier)
2 Eddie Pearson (Carfin Shamrock) last game for Hibernians 5-11-1887
3 J McLaughlin (Govan Whitefield)
4 Willie Maley (Cathcart) had played & due to sign for Hibernians
5 James Kelly (Renton) had played several games for Hibernians
6 Phil Murray (Blantyre)
7 Neil McCallum (Renton)
8 T.E.Maley (Cathcart) Hibernians debut 1-1-1886 last game April 1887
9 John Madden (Dumbarton) had guested for Hibernian in April 1887

My great grandfather played for the Hibs at that time. He stayed.

I know someone on here whose great grandfather also played for the Hibs at that time. They get a mention in the team below............
