This was quite a big deal in the past. From what I've read and picked up it was cetainly not viewed as a dilluted form of international recognition. I had some programmes fi the 50s kickin around and it was in these games that Willie Bauld got most of his international 'recognition', much to the chagrin of many a Gorgie devotee. And even with my footballing persuasion its a travesty he only acquired 3 full caps.(IIRC there were also a spate of regular Ediburgh Select representative matches played alternately at our place and theirs. And while my recall isnae as fresh as it was I think I remember winding up a mate of mine with a photae of aforementioned Mr Bauld in a Hibs top!)
