What are peoples views on Holloways latest rant against the authorities? I dont always agree with him, but imho he should be able to pick whatever side he likes. If not then it will surely just be a case of him and the rest of the EPL managers sending their squad numbers in the the premier league, and they decide the best 11 players, and thats the team they should play?

The guy is a breath of freshair to the EPL. I love watching his interviews. :agree:

In regards to his latest rant last night. I think he is more than correct with what he said. I disagreed with Wolves being fined when they did similar in the past.

Each club has an objective and goals to reach. They have a squad to help them achieve these goals and it should be upto the manager to use his full squad whichever way he feels is going to benift the club.

Agreed. I like him and I like Blackpool, any team should be aloud to field what ever team they like IMO.

Yep, thought the same with wolves last year, who are the EPL to decide that players who have contracts with the club are not good enought o play for them as and when the manager likes?

Also, it is up to the manager how he uses those resources over a long season.

The fans still watched a cracking game at the end of it and the fans who watch the next game will see fresher players.

I also don't agree with everything that he says as I think he can be a bit over-emotional at times but I think he's spot on here.

The Premier League made the rule this year that each club had to name 25 players in their first team squad. By that very definition, it's not reserve players or youth players but players that each manager believes is capable of playing first team Premiership football. The Premier League obviously accepted Holloway's list when he submitted it in September so as far as I'm concerned, Ian Holloway and every other Premiership manager is entitled to name any 11 of those 25 players every single week, provided that they are free from suspension.

I also thought he was spot on when he made the point that his chairman doesn't tell him which players to pick for each match so why should someone in the Premier League have that kind of authority when they have no idea what each player in Blackpool's squad is capable of and how the other players are with injuries etc.

Apart from anything else, they would look really foolish if they punished Holloway for putting out a side that only narrowly lost at Villa Park. As Holloway said in his interview today, if they had lost 10-0 last night then they might have a point but he is the manager and the moment we get the authorities dictating to the managers who they basically can and can't play is the time that we're probably better jacking football in.

The guy is just class;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB9rI7p7vmk

4 games in 12 days so he shuffles the pack in what is a small inexperienced squad - it's his choice suely.

What gets me is where do the authorities draw the line? is it because they are worried people won't watch the game on the TV or that SKY will get pi**ed off?

I think he's a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for. I met him a few weeks ago at the casino. And he spoke about his vision for the team. He wants to fill the squad with young hungry players, players who want to use Blackpool as a stepping stone, and if he can do that Blackpool will obviously reap the benefits in transfer fee's.

He said it was the only way they could do it, they are never going to compete with any club in the EPL in the transfer market.

He enjoys the limelight i think, and does come across at times a little nuts, but i think under that mask he's a decent bloke, and a decent manager.

I think he's actually toned it down a little this year. I saw an interview with him a few weeks ago and I think he said that his wife had said to him that now he was an EPL manager he had to be a little bit more serious and not always be such a clown. He still says what he thinks and can be pretty funny but he's lost some of the daft analogies. On this issue I think he's spot on.

I quite enjoyed him asking the reporter "what would you know?"

Tend to think of him as a charismatic Strachan...whereas Strachan is just an :asshole:

He is an intelligent man and also a very entertaining man.

I think some of his rants are a little bit of self-promotion but this latest issue is a legal minefield waiting to happen. I still can't believe Wolves did not fight their suspended fine. By resting players for one game he may have saved them being injured/burnt-out for 3 which could have a real impact on their ability to stay in the premier league (which I hope Blackpool do).

Based on the highlights shown on MOTD its not as if you could say Blackpool did not give Villa a run for their money so it was still a competitive team so see no issue with what he did.

I think this is all just overkill because of the smaller cup competitions where the big boys play a lot of their youngsters and from a sponsers view the authorities had to be seen to do something to force teams into making it as attractive a competition as possible. The league is a different issue, the sponsors are in place and don't have to worry if you are getting 5 goals scored in a game who was actually playing.

As the request is for an explanation about the team selection, presumably the Premier League would be making the same request had Blackpool gubbed Villa 4-0 last night.

And presumably they would also ask for the same explanation if Man Utd or Chelsea made ten changes to their starting line up regardless of the team still containing seven or eight international players.

I think its outrageous for him to threaten to quit, though i do agree with him its ridiculous with the pace and frequency of premier League games and a squad like Blackpool to have the same team out every week.

I think a manager reserves the right to play the team he wants, to rest the others if he pleases, big clubs all over the world have been doing it for years and it only seems to come into the spot light when a so called provincial club manager does it.

HOW DARE HE!! try and gain an advantage on his next opponent by responsibly resting players who need a rest or give other players in the team a chance to shine.

What is the problem with what he's done ??

All the players that he played the other night are part of his squad..

I reckon he's done nothing wrong as his eleven players were part of his compulsory 25 man squad. I reckon the sports media down there are making it an issue when it needn't/shouldn't be as no rules were broken.

As others have rightly said, Blackpool and Holloway are a breath of fresh air. I watched the Manchester derby last night and it was dire, despite the cost of assembling both teams whereas Blackpool, a side that cost 50p to put together were hugely unlucky to lose to AV in what's been reported as a cracking game. Given the choice right now I'd watch Blackpool ahead of just about every other EPL outfit. You're a lucky man having them on your doorstep

I agree John, they are a breath of fresh air and it is all down to Holloway. I have been a couple of times to watch them, and they remind me of Mowbrays Hibs. They just want to win every game, and those fans that go every week, cant wait for the next game. I remember that feeling. :agree:

I agree with Holloway, the Premierleague made them pick a squad of 25 so if the players are in that 25, there is surely no problem. Plus his team last night had more experience and played very well.

It's hardly a new thing for teams not to field their strongest team - just ask Hearts. Nor is it a new thing for other teams to whinge about it - just ask Hearts. However it is quite unusual for the authorities to question team selection - just ask Hearts.

Where do you go with this, Man Utd. have fielded a reserve team with no noticable effect, maybe if Wigan tried it there would be. I think anyone registered as a first team player should be eligible to play in any game.

What the beaks should maybe look at is limiting squad sizes, it works in the World Cup.

There'd be trouble for sure.

Although i don't agree with everything he says, i think most of the times he actually says what we all think. I'd enjoy that party.

The boy is spot on imo. He handed in his 25 man squad and can use them wherever and whenever he likes.

The Premiership are completely wrong again. Holloway is a breath of freshair in that league and just tells it like it is. Good on him.
