when it comes to location?

We have one of the most scenic and gorgeous cities in the world...yet what musical talent has it produced?

Why has glasgow produced scores of bands that are chartworthy?

You could name any city in England and there will be a band that hailes from there.

The only constant is that Edinburgh is NOT depressing, has such amazing scenery and is the focus of so many other arts festivals.

However, where are the bands from Broomhouse, Oxgangs, The fort or Pilton??

The proclaimers had to come from darkest Fife to give us a soundtrack!

Are people from Edinburgh spoiled?

erm....Win (That's lager ad from the 80's if you're wondering)
um.....the Wendy's (one of the last signings to Factory records)
Finley Qaye (tenuous link I know, but he was a ballboy at ER so that counts!)

Plenty of bands from Edinburgh, but it's never had a focused musical scene in the way that Glasgow or Manchester have. Meaning you tend to get a more eclectic array of bands/acts. I think so anyway.

Other than the occasional popular band, Edinburgh has tended to produce hugely talented individuals who have gone on to huge success with other acts/performers. David Paton (Rollers/Pilot/The Alan Parsons Project/Camel/Elton John), Shirley Manson (Goodbye Mr Mackenzie/Garbage), Davey Johnstone (Elton John/Alice Cooper, Meatloaf) to name but three. There are lots more.

What we don't have is countless average bands who all sound the same and last about 1 1/2 albums. There are lots of exciting original bands in and around Edinburgh. Just don't expect them to get near the singles chart.

They were a top band, I still often listen to 'The Suns Going To Shine for me soon' .

Good song, but they were signed too soon I think. They could have done with another year of gigging and writing before sticking out an album, but factory were desperate then and didn't have a year.
