What are a few stewards going to do if thousands stand up?
Better for atmosphere, so sod the law and just get the hold stand up on their feet.

While on the subject on Liverpool v Napoli, don't ya just love the British/English media..?

Few Scousers stabbed in the arse over there and its all over Sky Sports and the papers, last night though at Anfield, from reports i've read the surrounding streets of Anfield so the worst voilence in British stadia in the last... well since West Ham v Millwall last season, and correct me if I'm wrong but there hasn't been one mention of it on either Sky Sports News or in the red tops.

Media protecting their precious good happy family friendly premier league club....

''Tony London
12:47 PM Nov 5, 2010

I was at the game last night. I came up from London to watch my Napoli for the first time in ten years but I wish I had'nt. The Liverpool fans were animals, that is the only way to describe it. I feared for my life and I was actually hoping for a draw because if Napoli won I do'nt know what would have happened after the game.''

From a Basel fan who was in Liverpool last night

KICK OFF 20:00

18:00: First group of Liverpool Urchins I saw, group of 30-40 lads all aged (30+) walking around to the Kop. Some Napoli fans outside the Kop not sure if they were Ultras but certainly should not be walking around after what happened in Naples. Liverpool lads attack Napoli fans outside the Kop and a good fight happens but most Napoli run, Liverpool punch 6 or 7 all over the floor.

18:30 Group of 20-30 Napoli standing by the Centenary stand are spotted and around 80 Liverpool lads attack, once again Napoli ran to the comfort of the Police.

18:45 I walked to the ''away section'' only to see around 1500 Napoli 'Ultras' standing surrounded by riot cops, horses & dogs. They looked like some of Napoli's top boys but Police had them surrounded all day & night.

19:00 Liverpool mobs all over the place, group upon group all in black searching for Napoli all over the stadium. Alot of ''normal'' Napoli fans walking around like it is Brann Bergen away. Liverpool mobs now in a number of 300+ hitting any Napoli they see, Napoli fans in small numbers running away and through the mob but Liverpool are punching and kicking them as they run past them. Some Napoli running to Police for help.

19:20 Some Napoli Ultras around 100+ were in a pub called ''Arkles'' when word spread to the Urchins and around 80 old school walked to the pub. Police were pretty much non-excisting there as they were concentrating on the 1500 other fans near the away section. Liverpool mob were armed with flick knives and 3 crossbows. They entered the pub and everything was smashed, not sure who won as I did not enter, only outside view. Windows were smashed and alot of damadge done to both sides Id say. Good fight. Alot of blood. Some Napoli were pointing out Liverpool lads who attacked them.

19:40 Alot of Liverpool still on the hunt, hundreds of young and old school lads searching. But by this time the Police know about Arkles incident and round all Napoli up so they cannot escape.

During the game: Liverpool re-group in the 'Sandon' pub and I must of saw 250+ lads drinking in there who did not go the match, so were out for revenge. Around half time a group of Napoli without tickets walked past and were attacked but ran.

A further few fights happened during the game but nothing much.

22:00 As fans are leaving the group Urchins are still all around stadium but Napoli fans kept behind. But some Napoli were in home sections and were let out. Bad mistake, Napoli again were smashed all around the stadium. I saw Italians begging Police to take them in the van and running and jumping into taxi's. Police were putting Napoli in taxi's but Urchins were following taxi's stuck in traffic and beating Napoli inside. Id say around 30-40 Napoli were beaten whilst the away section of Napoli were kept inside. Urchins picked off Napoli werever they could just like Napoli did in Naples.

23:00 Main group of Napoli 300+ were being escorted by Police when around 80 Urchins attack them near Everton FC stadium. Around 60 Napoli Ultras stood and fought with Liverpool but it only lasted for 20-30 seconds as Police charged on horseback.

CONCLUSION: Liverpool great mob, 100's of lads. Best mob at Anfield for many years. Alot of old school (40+) lads out. Napoli very dissapointing, too many normal fans beat up as most of the Ultras were surrounded by Police, but some did manage to escape and fight, but not as good as I expected. Above are the only incidents I witnessed, plenty more probably. 6 Liverpool arrested, 1 Napoli.

English media protect the ''English game'' because they want to keep it clean, but they do not report actual incidents.

Goal.Com reporter

Next to nothing has been reported in the mainstream English media about the violence outside Anfield before and after the Liverpool v Napoli Europa League clash last night, but in 25 years of attending matches these were some of the worst scenes I have witnessed.

On arriving at Anfield by car at 1700 BST, I parked around half-a-mile from the stadium down Anfield Road, and our party of four ? dressed in casual clothes ? began to walk towards the ground.

Within minutes we observed a group of around eight local hooligans ? some in Liverpool scarves and others in balaclavas ? embark on an unprovoked violent rampage by attacking any members of the public who may have been from Napoli. A family, including both men and women, were set upon outside a newsagent, while in a separate incident which occurred just 10 yards behind us one Napoli fan was knocked out cold with an uppercut as he walked past the group, and he crashed to the ground face first.

The hooligans then made their way towards us, and outnumbered heavily we were forced to seek refuge in a petrol station. The hooligans continued on down the road.

After five minutes, we left our safe haven and carried on towards Anfield. By the number of ambulances and police cars that drove past us with sirens on, it was clear that there was serious trouble outside the stadium. We didn?t wish to risk finding out first hand, so remained around the museum area until the terraces opened at 1830. But speaking to fans and obtaining eye-witness accounts from both teams, they confirmed there had been violence ?all afternoon?, with at least a dozen separate noteworthy incidents.

The most serious occurred outside Goodison Park where it was verified that a group of Napoli fans were beaten up by an organised Liverpool faction as revenge for the stabbings in Campania a fortnight ago. Some supporters did claim there had been a few stabbings in Liverpool yesterday also, but there has been no official word on this.

Inside the stadium, some fights broke out just before half time between rival fans in the corner of the Anfield Road End ? where Napoli?s travelling contingent were based ? and the Centenary Stand, and around a dozen were thrown out of the stadium.

After the match, most Napoli fans were held behind by police until the rest of the stadium was cleared but when they did leave by escort there were still locals waiting for them

One fan from Benevento, Gennaro Rocco, told Goal.com: ?There were problems after the match, but not as bad as before the game. We saw some Napoli fans in small groups being hit. Just as we were being escorted out of the stadium, at a pub near a corner a whole pub of Liverpool fans with glasses in their hands were waiting for us. We were prepared for any fight too, but there were policemen so nothing happened.

?I am a Napoli Ultra, and I have seen a lot in Italy but even by our standards what happened in Liverpool was very, very bad.?

What happened last night was scary, and I was glad to escape from Anfield unscathed having witnessed first hand a number of fans being viciously beaten up. But it was not at all surprising. While the policing inside English stadiums is arguably second to no one in Europe, the idea that the Premier League is a super safe place to travel to watch games is quite frankly a load of utter rubbish.

It is a myth, the product of a corporate cover-up in order to present an image that the EPL is a squeaky-clean league so it can maximise it?s commercial success around the world. From a business point of view, this plan of action works, and maybe countries such as Italy who are so often panned by the media for stadium violence should do something similar.

But it is about time the football world wakes up and realises that there are countless meetings between hooligan elements EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND in the UK, but because they pushed it outside of the stadia it is an inconvenient truth that they can ignore.

I noticed that the "commentators" on channel 5 seemed to insinuate, during the game, that the Napoli fans were the ones causing the bother outside the ground.

Bit presumptious of them. A bit like how Lavezzi was having a great first half and, of course, it was simply to put himself in the shop window for a move to the EPL

Gotta love these modest English commentators.
