Pubs can now open at 11am if they have applied for and been granted their license as such. The old 12.30am law was scrapped last year. I know that most Belhaven pubs are now licensed from 11am on Sundays. not any near ER but a couple down the Shore (Cameo & Waterline) and a good few in the city centre.

Pretty sure some other boozers will have the 11am Sunday license.

Bank hotel will be open from 9am. That's where I will be until the harp opens at 12.30pm.

Cant remember where I read or heard this but I think a few pubs down ER applied for an early opening but were all knocked back – I could be wrong though! (not that its ever happened before mind )

You're right Jack, they applied for a 10.00am licence for the Rangers game and were all knocked back.

Are you sure about this Frazer?

I recall that a decision was made in April by Edinburgh Licensing board that ruled out any Sunday opening for pubs or bars (expect for those that alrealy had an historic early license such as hotels & social clubs) prior to 1230.

I also debated this with the Licensee of The Phoenix (on Broughton Street) who represents the pub trade when they meet with the council.

I know the Cameo & Waterline open at 11am, but I am certain that they cannot serve alcohol prior to 1230 on a Sunday.

Happy to be proved wrong of course!

You're spot on.

Although other licensing boards (East Lothian, Midlothian and the Borders for example) now allow pubs to serve alcohol prior to 12.30 on a Sunday if they apply to do so, the wonderful Edinburgh board in their wisdom still block it from happening.

There's a couple of places that open earlier but don't serve alcohol. The only places that can are sites that had the old style 'hotel' licenses prior to the the new act coming into place last September who had grandfather rights for the hours they already had in place.
