What proof do you need that youre a student? Could I just get a student to buy me a ticket, then go?

I've been told that they'll be checking at the gate for proof of student status (some sort of card - matric, NUS, young scot etc) to go with a student ticket. If you're caught out you'll be asked to pay the difference - £14
