With Rankin missing from the spot yesterday and Deek missing his last three (I think) who the **** should take the penalties, especially if we get one next Sunday!

We must have a really dire penalty conversion record.

Our recent penalty record pretty much sums up the team confidence right now as far as I'm concerned. :boo hoo:

Derek Riordan.

Class and no brains so won't give a 5h1t about missing the other 3.

Vote 1, vote Derek.

Liam miller for me.

Watching Liam in the pre match warm up his shots invariably fly over the bar so I'll plump for Ed De Graaf

Why did he not take it yesterday?

Why did he not take it yesterday?

if youve missed your last three would you be running for the ball wanting to take a potential game winning pen?

Yes, otherwise when are you going to try again?

if your not feeling confident dont go for it and there will be plenty other times he can re find his penalty form

I know he's missed his last three but, to be honest I'm quite dissapointed he didnt take the responsiblity yesterday. Purely because he was given the captaincy, I thought maybe Derek would have stepped up and lead by example.

Nevertheless, it still should Riordan taking the pens.

I would go with Deek

Riordan for me, just take the pens from 25 yards out! :agree:

De Graaf.

With a keeper in front of him, he should have no problem.

Why did he not take it yesterday?

I Riordan can get his act together from the spot I would suggest him, a little extra practice and some composure and he should be fine.

If not him then I would say Miller. Season ticket holders in the famous five have to take out extra insurance when Rankin is in the squad just in case he decides to warm up his shooting boots!

Perhaps for this game Riordan, but he clearly isn't the man for the job long term, a good penalty taker doesn't miss as many as he has.

Trying to think experienced players that are clean strikers of the ball. Ian Murray? Michael Hart?

In all seriousness, whilst it isn't the biggest priority, a good record with penalties should be an attribute looked at when making new signings. It can be 6/7 goals a season.

I can't understand a striker who doesn't want a free shot at goal from 12 yards out and for a player who's supposed to be a dead ball expert he's not really stepping up in my eyes.

Paul Hartleys scored 7 penalties already this season.

I dont get this big love in for Deeks to take the penalties.Rankin misses one and he is discounted completely for it yet Deek misses 3 on the trot and its a no brainer for some people that he should take them.Just coz he is our best goalscorer doesnt mean he is good at pens. His record says otherwise.2 players that spring to mind as being expert pen takers are/were Ray Stewart and Graham Alexander.Neither scored many outside of pens and werent particularly gifted players but iirc hardly missed.
Personally I would have given de Graaf a go but if Deek is taking them I wish him all the best.
