As predicted by Chick "Ho Ho Ho " Young and 99% of all scottish footy fans. Of course it wasn't fixed or anything!

There was just as much chance they wouldn't be together as there was of them being paired.

I'd be astonished if there was any jiggery pokery in these draws. It wouldn't be worth the risk, as discovery would be a major scandal for all concerned. In a way I'm happy to see Aberdeen and Motherwell get a hard route to the final as I simply grudge our main opponents any major succcess which can only strengthen their status psychologically and financially. Let the Old Firm kick hell out of each other if they want. They're up there on their own and who cares what, when and how they lock horns with each other.

How many times have the OF reached semi-finals of Scottish competitions? How many times can you remember them being paired together?

OK, it's not actually as bad as I thought. Mostly due to recent competitions

If my calculations are correct, there is only a 1 in 3 chance of them being paired together in a semi-final draw and Keekaboo's post shows that to be not far off the case since the 1920s. Certainly not into the realms of being dodgy - and the last twenty years is pretty much a 50/50 split. Though that run in the 60s/70s must have got conspiracy theories raging!!!

What are the odds? I'm having a mental math block. :greengrin

Is it a 1 in 3 chance that they'll face each other e.g the first ball out can be an OF team, then the second ball has a one in 3 chance of being an OF team?

On those odds you would say that you'd expect 12 in 36 to be drawn but it's turned out 12 in 54. It certainly looks like they were lucky or 'lucky' from the 60's through to the 80's not to be drawn against each other.

Was there a change in how the draws were made from the early 90's? TV draws perhaps?

Surprise surprise all we need now is for both of them to be beaten

we are not interested in that cup it is the scottish cup that we are after been a little while since we have won it lol

As shown above the run of 31 semi finals and only being put together twice in the 30 years between 62 and 91 suggests that there was something a little untoward going on. :greengrin Remembering these were the days of behind closed draws with none of the pesky tv cameras involved.

Boy at my work came in the other day asking me if he could get a bet on the OF being kept apart. I asked why and he said a guy he spoke to at the casino knows someone in the sfa and it was a sure thing they would be kept apart. He then phoned up a few bookies but no one would take the bet.

My "theory" is that they have been drawn together far more often since the League Cup and Scottish Cup have been sponsored. The SFA get their money through sponsorship whoever is in the final therefore no need for gerrymandering.

Is the League Cup anything to do with the SFA?
