Was just reading we'd had 8 managers in the last 10 years, maybe we can keep this one for more than 18 months, here's hoping, good luck Colin.

If we are to progress as a club i think we have to stick with this manager for more than 18 months, saying that if results dont pick up and we continue our poor form, would any1 be surprised if we were looking again in 18 months time, something has to give, the club stick by the manager no matter what, mcleish was in charge when we got relegated, he got us promoted, and had us playing good stuff, before he got tempted by a bigger job.

I think someone posted that only a few were sacked and others left or moved onto bigger things so a simple stat doesn't have any real meaning.

Generally we get ONE good season out of a Hibs manager. I cannot recall anyone having success for a longer spell. Turnbull was the closest, as we won more than one trophy but it was all condensed into one continuous period that edged into previous and post seasons.

The problem with Hibs is that we always sell our best players, usually at the worst possible time. So success is very difficult to build on. Best for a manager to start slowly and build up to a success. Collins made the classic mistake of an early cup win. :greengrin

With current economics, we cannot even hold onto middling players or even hope we get a good few years out of youngsters. The Famous Five is no longer possible, though even they were split up. A manager needs to face that and hope he gets the one good season and a cup to show for it. If he is really good he will jump ship anyway.

I see that differently, 8 managers in ten years: some were sacked and others wanted to move on to bigger and better things: that's not a 'simple stat of no meaning', that is a reflection on a club that is in a serious crisis and is not "REALLY" viewed by people to be the huge club some of us on here may take it to be. We should sit up and take note of this stat, and not belittle it - or we'll soon be up to 9 in 11 years!

Anyone know how this compares to other clubs in the SPL?

Anyone know how this compares to other clubs in the SPL? Surely most will be similar considering the stat includes caretaker managers.(Donald Park and Mark Proctor FFS)

By my calculations, we have had eight permanent managers in ten years.

McLeish-1998-2001
Sauzee-2001-2002
Williamson-2002-2004
Mowbray-2004-2006
Collins-2006-2007
Paatelainen-2008-2009
Hughes-2009-2010
Calderwood-2010-Present

Out of the previous seven, McLeish, Williamson and Mowbray resigned to go to other clubs, Collins just resigned and Sauzee, Paatelainen and Hughes were effectively sacked.

No evidence in that list to suggest that teams who keep a manager longer than we do have any more success than us.

With their resources Rangers would have kept winning things if they'd had 4 managers or 8 managers.

In fact the only two teams that have won the Scottish cup outside the OF in this period are Hearts and Dundee Utd 9 and 8 managers respectively.

remember 2 went on to better things so its better to say 6 left and some where sacked.

It's got to the stage where you hope CC does move on to better things one day because that will mean he's been a success here! Like TM and The Ginger One.

Been thinking about Calderwood's appointment. I'm sure Petrie had longevity of tenure as a criteria as I reckon if Calderwood does well in his first season and a half, there won't be a queue of clubs lining up to take him.

Lets hope he does well AND stays for more than 2 seasons.
