Tonight's book launch of Lawrie Reilly's autobiography was a huge, emotional occasion. Players like Reilly, Turnbull,Cormack, Martin, Kinloch, Patterson, Preston, Stanton - reminiscences of Hibs beating Manchester Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid and a warm welcome for Tottenham ( and Hearts) legend, Dave Mackay.

And in attendance, folk of all ages, families, old men, children, wives, mothers and sweethearts, Hibs supporters and those who support other teams (who, to a man, were hugely impressed by the Hibs experience).
All with their memories and their pride in Hibernian FC.
And these great names from our past - still proud, still sharp, still comic in their clear affection for each other.

And outside, hovering over a darkened pitch, our parents, grandparents, great grandparents, friends who've gone and faces familiar from the terracing who we recognised but never knew. All of us, past and present, united in our love for the Hibs.

That's what makes a club great.
It was a privilege to be there in that company.

Excuse my ignorance, but where was the launch? I'm heading to the Gyle tomorrow to get a copy, as the man himself will be signing copies. Great present for my auld mans birthday next week!

Beautiful post, Aubenas. Your penultimate paragraph speaks loudly to me.

'There is memory in the stones,
And prophecy in the shadows; the houses know,
They know but they are dumb,
Things were dreamed in Easter Road ages ago
And things will come.'

:top marksGreat sentiment. A sense of community and a shared history, something we need reminded of. Thank you.
