:wink:The ability to change a game by the use of substitutes and/or changing the formation/tactics would be nice...just for a wee change.

No ties whatsoever to Glasgow, particularly Rangers. (cf Miller and Bobby)

No long ball merchants (cf Bobby)

No tippy tappy merchants (cf Yogi)

No first division managers (cf Duffy)

No egotists (cf Collins)

No foreigners (cf Mixu and Sauzee)

If there's anyone who avoids all of the above then they're a shoo-in.

He must be experienced. He must be proven. He must have excellent proven man management skills. He must be able to prove development of players whether youth or not. He must be able to demonstrate tactical nous.

He must be a winner, a player who under-achieved whilst playing with an utterly ruthless streak hellbent on making a name for himself in Management. I give you Brian Clough and Fergie - someone like them, both strikers incidentally and both under-achieved at player level, that made them hungry with a point to prove and boy did Cloughie and does Fergie.

So simple really:cool2:

OK. This is ****ing easy.....here we are:

1) We've got a big squad of players of all sorts; we have keepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards ...
2) Pick the BEST 11 who are PLAYING WELL and play them in THEIR OWN positions
3) Re-read 2 around 83479593475 times so you understand that

and for when things go titties north/don't quite work out:

1) You are afforded, under the rules of Scottish Fitba, the use of subs...if someone is playing SHEITE, take them off
2) If someone is NOT playing sheite, leave them ON
3) If the formation is not working - change it

and the golden rules:

1) Take no sheite from players, rest of management or anyone else
2) ...cause they ALL get paid well compared to the average man in the street
3) ...if they dont want to play or canny play, SELL the bassas
4) ...give those in the press who deserve respect, respect - the rest, treat with the contempt they deserve, the bassas.

NEVER praise rangers.
NEVER praise celtic.
NEVER praise hearts

Everything else, is up to yer ain discretion.

This will take you around 12 minutes to learn. You can fill the rest of the week putting into practice the complex ideas, plans and solutions to win us games - the above is the EASY STUFF......................

How no? Worked fine when Deek and O'Connor battered in ****loads of goals when we were leaking plenty much at the back :agree:

First form of defense is attack mate :thumbsup:

In retrospect, I agree. Using my criteria, Susan Boyle is still eligible to apply and that's not cool.

he must be able command total respect from the players, as i think there are still a few lazy bassas in the squad who are causing trouble.

I think that is a key. The players need a good blootering. Petrie needs managing

I feel the guy should be outside of Scotland. Not many decent internal candidates anyway but someone from England might have a source of players (like Mowbray)

Be prepared for a dog fight this season and to be ruthless.

Hopefully someone who believes in bringing youth through. I think Petrie will have that on his list anyway.

The suitable application will;

- Get everything right in 10mins
- Play the type of football that each individual supporter in the stadium wants
- Turn all of our young players into world beater by looking at them
- Work on a budget which.....does not exist
- Sell any player of any value 15 mins before the transfer window
- Take the blame for the boards mistakes - i.e. above
- Love getting booed
- Boo his own players off the pitch
- Win every game 5 nil
- Always beat, or at least get a draw against hertz, Rangers or Celtic
- Finish 3rd or higher in the league
- Get to at least the last 16 of the champions league.

And he will do all of this for a bang average football wage.

I do think that sums up the views of many...it might even work.

Agree with all of that, plus he must be able to manage the Board. Managing upwards is a key skill in getting your objectives fulfilled and I don't think our recent managers have been able to do that too well.

A few lessons learned perhaps?

We need to get this appointment right. Let's not be back in this situation in another year and a half please.

We need a manager who

- isn't an ex-player :bitchy:
- is willing to give the young boys a chance
- doesn't feel the need to be one of the boys
- knows how to spot a decent player
- knows how to set his team up
- has a Plan B when it's going pear shaped
- is respected by the players

Hughes met none of those.
Mixu met none of those.
JC met some, but too many players exposed themselves as poor professionals
Mowbray met some, but was always going to move on once he'd got a little success

Out of the candidates being suggested or put about, folk like Craig Brown meet the criteria I'd be looking for and I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Answers on a postcard as to who it'll end up being though.

We should really just print the above off, send it to the board in a big, f-off envelope with "FAO Roderick Petrie" on it.

Football is a - fundamentally - simple game. Best players (on form, not reputation) playing in their best positions. Pass the ball to players wearing your colour of strip, towards the other oppositions net. When you don't have the ball, run about a bit until you find a bit of space to receive the ball.

Repeat ad a 4-0 humping of the Yams.

:agree: I think you just about covered it. I would just add that being good at handling press and inteviews would help PR wise as well. A likeable guy who knows the right things to say can always help smooth over a bad run.
