Why do people de-badge their car?

The reason i had taken mine off was because the badge didnt suit the rest of the car, other people do it to hide whats under the bonnet, i know people who have high powered cars who have done this as well as lower powered.

The Ghosting or sleeper term comes from what would look like to be a "normal" road car but have a beast of an engine under the bonnet

On our way down to Ace cafe in a mates 3 door cossie, we come across another 3door and decide to have a bit of traffic light grand prix action. Lights turn green we take off leaving the other cossie when out of nowhere we are passed by a red mk3 escort van with royal mail on the side.

Van was at the ace cafe turns out it had 4x4 running gear and a 400bhp+ YB in it. Real sleeper even had a rusty dented front wing and steel wheels.

Apologies. I let my age get the better of me. Of course I know where you are coming from.

However, my old Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia would have your car for breakfast though. I used screwdrivers to take some of the badges off!:greengrin

It probably would, though it's a nippy wee motor I bought it for the look of the car rather than the speed, I have had my share of fast cars and don't really miss them, last car was a 2.2 CDTI civic.

I wouldn't have bothered if I had to use screwdrivers and filling holes in the bodywork etc

They don't make cars like they used to. Screwdrivers didn't make any sort of indentation or scratch in the bodywork.

Never mind doing up your car or "ghosting". Most of your time was taken up by constantly filling in holes caused by rust.
I swear I had mushrooms growing in the footwell of my orion due to water intrusion.
