anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Prague?

Heading across for a Basketball tourny at end of month and need a good located hotel,

also need one in Karlovy Vary, which is probably harder to find recommendation for on here but worth a try anyway

We stayed in the hotel Ametyst when we went a few years ago and found it to be very nice indeed. No complaints whatsoever. It's about a five minute walk from the nearest tube station (Namesti-miru) but the area was nice and it reminded me of the new town. It was next to a pleasant wee square where you could happily spend a night out.

I don't think your location matters that much because the minute you enter a tube station you are in the centre of town in a matter of minutes and are wherever you want to be not long after that due to the excellent transport system.

Don't go to the Hotel Amadeus in Zizkov.

The staff are unfriendly, the plumbing is dodgy and we woke up one day to find a thief going through our bags in the room! I chased him away before he got anything. Hotel management weren't interested.

Prague was great apart from that. Best beer in the world. Great tram system once you master it. Always have plenty cash on you. Some restaurants don't do credit cards.

I've stayed here (http://www.booking.com/hotel/cz/hotelseifert.html) twice. Basic but nice, and cheap (£30-35 for a double room)

It is a 5-10 minute bus journey from the old town square or 20-25 minute walk. It's in the Zizkov area, which reminded me of Leith! Plenty of boozers and restaurants around, and many characters walking about.

I quite liked Zizkov! Bit different from The Old Town Square tho!
