I was watching a show last week and a guy mentioned the time the Blue Peter garden got trashed as a seminal moment in his young life. It was something that left him feeling vulnerable, and aware of malign forces outside his home environment.

I think I'd be in my 20s at the time and thought it was amusing the serious way the presenters were treating the issue. My question - to anyone who was a kid at the time - is, what was your reaction and do you class this as one of the major traumas in your life like 9/11 and the Yams winning that trophy in 1998.

Or is it one of the Albert Kidd/ Johnny Rotten type moments, when you thought "hee hee, nothing is sacred"?

I think it was the latter, but would have been late teens and I just couldnt take the guy seriously or Janet Ellis. Now if it had been John Noakes my sympathies might have been different. Its a bit like the Joey Deacon incident on Blue Peter, they seem to get it really wrong! Or maybe I was a horrible child.:wink:

I hadn't seen that before, but its inclusion in the series kind of says that, for many, this was a significant event of the 80s.

Wasn't it some young football players that did the deed? Sol Campbell comes to mind.

Everyone had a good laugh at Blue Peter and their soppy garden.

Funny how when you get older it doesn't seem so amusing.

I think you're right. It was mentioned more than once when he played for us.

I was 17/18 at the time. I must admit I thought it hilarious at the time, not so much now.
