Was in the Virgin Media store at the Gyle today looking to see what deals they had on the Samsung Galaxy S, and the guy said that they'd been discontinued because of the number of faults.

I asked if all the operators had discontinued it and he said they had, but a quick check online shows all the major players (bar Virgin) still selling it (though maybe coincidentally, Orange were out of stock this evening).

I really wanted one, but can't be bothered with the hassle if it's going to break a lot.

Anyone got one and what have been your experiences with it? Have to say it looks like a great phone!

I think virgin discontinued it because they weren't able to keep up with demand for it. I'm also looking at getting this phone it looks awesome.

So if you see any cracking deals on it let me know.

I've had it about a month, having returned my HTC Desire when it broke inside a week. Having had the 2 I much prefer the Galaxy and I've had no problems with it so far.

Not wanting to get off topic, but my question may help Matty though, why do you prefer the Samsung over the HTC? I got a Desire last week and I can't fault it yet.

I've had the HTC desire around 3 weeks now and its great for online and the odd app. I'm not keen on touch screen for texting and making calls but that's because I prefer buttons on my phone.

I had a spur of the moment decision that I wanted a contract, asked about for the best phones out just now and was told the desire and ordered it!

In hindsight I'd have ordered a phone with buttons, not a blackberry, but that's not a fault of the phone.

I've had the Galaxy for a week now as an upgrade from an N97, it's a bit bigger but far lighter and miles thinner, the screen is very good and the rumoured upgrade to Froyo this month should make the phone even better.
A few decent deals HERE (http://www.simfone.co.uk/show.asp?search=i9000)

I've had a Desire for around 4 months, use it constantly, best phone I've used by miles and have often had friends mention what a fantastic image can be seen on the large viewing pane. Daughter complains it look like a calculator.

Only comlaint I have is the battery takes a real pounding due to prolonged usage and therfore needs charged every night.

Thats the same with the Galaxy S. Great phone and superb videos with it as well but the battery does need charging daily.

I got my Galaxy S on an upgrade with Vodafone with a £20 contract and the phone cost me 13p:grr::greengrin

What apps you got?

Try Angry Birds or Robo Defence for the bus. Addictive little games!

You need to download an app to block texts and calls from certain numbers which I found a little strange.

Edinburgh Bus Tracker - Got that, I was at the bus stop waiting for the bus and was downloading the app as the display at the stop wasn't working. Whilst doing it the bus I was waiting for drove right past me! :grr:

Fotmob Soccer Scores (Fanatastic live scores app with sound notifications for specific games) - I've been looking for a decent one of those, I'll give that a try.

Paper Toss (Totally addictive game) - Had that but deleted it.
Shazam - Same as above. Cracking app but never use it.
Foodfinder (Finds any reataurant in whatever are you are in)
Barcode Scanner (Scan any book,CD or DVD and it automatically opens up the cheapest place its available on the net - spooky - Will give that one a try, where does it scan from on the desire?

Some comments.
