Lichenstein probably had more shots on goal. They put in a couple of hard tackles but at this level you have to be able to handle that. The guy who tackled Hutton is a mechanic so you can understaand that after 90 minutes his timing would be out. Where we got 7 minutes extra time from who knows because they put up 5 minutes. Relieved but not very happy ! wrong staff - simple and limited ability.

The fact we were celebrating goals so much against tonights opposition is embarrassing in itself.

Its Liechtenstein FFS.

Disgrace.

The ref and his assistant aren't mechanics. They should've spotted that one. It was a shocker.

it wouldnt matter who the scotland manager is, the problems are far FAR deeper than the manager :agree: it's utterly disgraceful that a 40 year old is brought in to the squad, we could debate a couple of names that would possibly be better than david weir but if he trully is the best this country has then once again the problems are FAR deeper:bitchy: imo :boo hoo:

As a fundamental principle, I agree with you, but looking at tonight alone.

This is LIECHTENSTEIN we are talking about. It's not like we've just drawn with Norway, or only just scraped a home win against Iceland, who are both relatively established - if mediocre - footballing nations who have more than 3 players who aren't mechanics/accountant/fitness instructors.

On that pitch we had players who have played in the Premiership, The Championship, the SPL and The Champions League, and who all earn - to varying degrees - a tidy wedge.

They should have beaten Liechtenstein comfortably tonight. Everyone says "football isn't played on paper" and I agree to an extent, but one must apply a modicum of common sense to that statment.

When it all comes down to the wire, is anyone willing to bet that - if we play anything like that against Spain and the Czech Republic - our inability to get a goal difference of anything better than +1 against - again, I repeat - LIECHTENSTEIN (at home) won't play a role in our qualification chances??

I've just been reminded that McCulloch's suspension is merely likely to preciptate a starting role for Barry Robson in Prague :boo hoo:

They are a top top side though! They are very well organised don't you know!

Prior to the start of this campaign, they have played a grand total of 80 qualifiers and in that time they have:

5 wins,

scored 22 goals

and

.

wait for it

.

conceded 215!

Now if you cannot get excited and pleased about scraping a pishy 2-1 home win against that calibre of opposition then something is seriously wrong. :greengrin

So the OF select with a Hearts ****** at the helm wins a game, who gives a? Interesting to see McGregor getting a game after all the hysteria about Mikolounas (sp) etc etc Does anyone else remember the jaobite anger from the tartan ******s on BBC Scrotland (you know the drop in centre for failed managers who end every sentence with ....eh!) and you know what? apparantly Naismith is better than Riordan, Hope they lose every game....Hibs are all that matters.

I missed the Lithuanian game so can't comment on the tackling. Read Potters comments. While it was hard at times tonight, I am sure it was nothing new to all the players. A bit worrying when we start to winge about tackles, afterall are we not famous for being a breed of fearless tacklers ourselves ! ?

:agree: We've heard it said by the pundits time after time: "There are no easy games in international football these days."

Unless you're the visiting side at Hampden Park. :greengrin

Not long back and im drained. Shocking performance with only 2 or 3 players earning pass marks for me.

Whilst not the overall problem the ref and their behaviour was disgusting. Just waiting to see it again but some of the tackles particuarly the stamp on Hutton were horrific.

Why was McCulloch booked? Yet they were going in with the studs flying and not even getting booked!

The Liths winning has stranglely made it a good night but that performance will take some forgetting.

Struan (who a couple of years ago cycled from Stonehaven to Belarus) put the plant pot on his head......it was hilarious, then RRRhhhhUUUaaariiidddhgghh dropped his trousers at a passing train.....

:agree:

:tsk tsk: You obviously didn't go to the posh parts.

Anyway, as for last night, where do you even begin with that shambles?

I'll be honest right now and say that when McManus scored that winner, I was actually quite annoyed because that win last night let the whole lot of them (management and players) off the hook. If Scotland had got what they deserved out of that match, which was a draw at best, the backlash on the end of such an embarrassing result would have been fully justified.

Instead we had Levein coming out last night and saying that he didn't feel lucky, just relieved. :bitchy:

That was effectively like Rangers playing Elgin City at Ibrox. Let's not kid ourselves, Liechtenstein are one of the worst sides in Europe, they are the only side to ever lose to San Marino, who probably ARE the worst side in Europe, and I'll tell you what, they actually looked quite good in their passing, certainly far better than anything Scotland could muster up for long periods of the match. The first half was a complete waste of time and even in the second half, Scotland did nothing until the equaliser.

That was possibly one of the worst performances that I have ever seen by any Scottish football team, it was just awful. There was no imagination, no trickery, no tempo to the play and the whole lot of them looked as if they thought they only had to turn up to collect the three points. To be honest, if Scotland had even played in second gear last night, they would probably have won by a good three or four goals. What we saw was a team that had no clue as to what they actually wanted to do with the ball and they actually gave a good impression of never having met each other before the match.

It actually frightens me to think what might happen against Spain next month. If some guys who play for a team in the Swiss second division can make the Scottish players look like amateurs, it's scary to think what Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Torres and Villa might be capable of doing to us.

And people seriously have to ask why some of us don't bother with the national side.
