I heard similar, but I was told it was a striker on loan from a championship club. not claiming its an excellent source or anything, just a similar rumour.
I don't know however it the "window" rules would allow that?

Would need to be a free agent for him to be able to sign for us now.

Seems fair enough, obviously not fit enough to play right away but if they are talking about an incentivised deal then hopefully both parties would benefit.

Has a decent pedigree so worth the gamble to try and get him back to fitness. We need someone who can actually cause defenders a phyiscal problem now and again.

So, essentially by this logic any buy is a panic buy because if they're any good they would have gone to another team - therefore any player we get isnt good enough becuase by your definition they cant be.

Sheesh.

ahibby
07-09-2010, 09:32 AM
It seems obvious what is going on behind the scenes indicates that he is some risk as far as fitness goes. He might well be worth a gamble on an incentive deal which will make him look after himself if he wants to earn. Otherwise he might not work all that hard and that would be a disaster. He is looking for a long term deal and that is why he hasn't taken up Hibs offer of an incentive deal. It would appear then that if no other offer comes his way he will sign on at Hibs on an incentive deal or not play at all. I'll trust Hibs on this one. We are still looking at the Lithuanian guy and could end up with both.

How do you know? He could have been at a few other clubs on trial and is discussing terms with a few people to try to get the best deal. Perhaps his fitness is an issue for all the clubs looking at him, and he is trying to hold out for a deal with less incentives in it and more basic pay, but no-one is willing to take the risk?

Thst's a bit dramatic. With the right deal there is the minimum of risk and plenty upside.

Let's not get carried away, no-one seems to be suggesting the guy is topping 25 stone and in serious health difficulties, just that as a big lad who hasn't been playing there are some fitness concerns.

I'd rather we looked into the possibilities, not just walk away at any sign of doubt.

We've looked at a few strikers and he is still in the frame. 60 goals in the Dutch league and 6'3" looks liek he might be worth persevering with on a deal.

My gut instinct is to go with Deneboom as opposed to Trakys - but that's mainly due to the faint feeling of nausea induced by the thought of signing a Lithuanian - that's what the Yams do surely?!? Euuuugh! :jamboak:

No idea what the best option is really but we DO need another striker and preferably one with a physical side to his game - ie the ability to bully defenders as opposed to bouncing off them.

We'd just have to replace them like we do whenever someone leaves.

They're at an age when they've not got much sell on value anyway so there isn't the same need to get them tied down on longer term deals.

I think the quote from the accounts announcement today - that the club needs to get its wages to turnover ratio back down to below 60% - is key. Effectively, work has already started on this.

That would explain why we have had a transfer window in which half of our new recruits were signed in the last 36 hours of the window and at the end of which we are still chasing the signing of a striker under freedom of contract.

The Board will be hoping for increased revenue to achieve the bulk of the task; but until that arrives they are ensuring that the player budget is managed prudently.

Hence we are negotiating hard with Denneboom to sign on our terms and bringing in the Lith as back-up in case D and his agent refuse to step up to the mark.
