Francis Dickoh - born in Denmark to Ghanaian parents - how is he Dutch?

Wikipedia says he's 27, 6 foot 1 1/2 and has played 89 games for Utrecht in the past 3 1/2 seasons and scored 5 goals. Has 13 caps for Ghana.

Sounds promising, but would think he's probably a replacement for Bamba rather than Hogg unfortunately.

He holds a Danish passport so no work permit issues.

Given that this article has him down as a "former Manchester City defender" - which is complete bollox, I wouldn't place too much faith in it. The guy does have a fair number of caps for Ghana, who aren't short of options.

Mikey,

I hope the guy does well, but i have a feeling that the board are willing to back Yogi too far into the future with him only having Duffy for 6months and only offering this Dickof guy 1year. I also think this is a panic buy, but hey that's just my opinion!

In the month of September 2008. If you want to try to paint the guy negatively that s your prerogative, but I just thought I would make sure it was accurate, "Dickoh - Worst Player in Dutch League for the Month of September 2008."

It's my prerogative to put a positive spin on it, "Dickoh - Ghanaian International who played in the top league in the Netherlands for a team who just beat Celtic in the Europa League" There, that sounds a bit better now doesn't it?

Truly unbelievable statement! :grr:

You don't even know what the guy looks like let alone whether he can play football to SPL (or better standards - he is apparently a Ghanian international) and, if so, whether he is a CB yet you reckon he must be better than Chris Hogg! :grr:

Irresponsible and unsubstantiated comments like yours don't help anyone IMO and often actually promulgate pages of mindless debate about a point that no one "debating" actually has any factual knowledge of! :cool2:

Settle down and wait until there are some facts to deal with since no-one posting on here is capable of influencing anything that is going to happen re tranfsrs from happening IMO! :agree:

Panic buy??? Hasn't everyone been crying out for the fact that we need another CH. He is an internationalist, played for a good team in a more competitive and gifted league than the SPL and its a panic buy :bitchy:

As for Duffy getting 6 months is that not good business sense to see how he works out rather than land ourselves with someone for 2/3 years who can't cut it anymore in the SPL?

6 months, 1 year, the principal is the same. Take a player on loan for a season to see if it works out. Yogi has a track record of using loan signings.

Was looking on a Ghanian football discussion board and the consenus seemed to be he is excellent in the air but a bit slow - couldn't play the high line at Utrecht. Unfortunately the view also seemed to be he was moving from a decent league to a 'backwater'. His manager at his last club in Denmark was Morten Weighorst.

Well it appears the Ghanians know there football. SPL is below a backwater.

Then he'll suit everyone who still wants Rob Jones back....

From what I can make out he's 6' 2" tall, has played 13 times for Ghana (not the worst of African footballing nations by a long way) and in the last 4 seasons he's played 89 games in the Dutch Eredivisie for the team that just pumped Celtc in the Europa League. That sounds like a reasonable background to me. As for idiot sites like the one in the OP.... :bitchy:

We need a centre-back who's good in the air. The Dutch fans seem to reckon this guy IS good in the air. So he's a bit slow - suppose we play him alongside Sol, who's quick over the ground? The Eredivisie IS a decent League, and the SPL IS a backwater in football terms. Possibility is that he COULD be more than good enough for the SPL?

I know I can be pretty dismissive of players I don't like, but I do tend to prefer to have seen them play at least once or twice before I write them off.

Why on earth should any player feel any enthusiasm whatsoever about signing for a club with supporters like some of ours who start slagging guys like Dickoh and Duffy before the ink's dry on their signatures?

"As soon as I was taken around the Training Centre, I knew that I wanted to be part of Hibernian and I think Edinburgh is a beautiful city; a perfect place to live"

Duffy said: "I am delighted to be joining Hibernian and can't wait to start training with the boys first thing this morning.
"I obviously know just how big a club Hibernian is, and have been really impressed with the training centre and the completed stadium."

Otherwise surely we'd have got him on a 2, 3 year deal to ensure he's here for a while.

Obviously, it's perfectly possible that he's got options written into the contract.

short deals keep your hands free and are less of a gamble. How much of this is patch work only Yogi knows because none of us on here have ever heard of most of the new guys until recently. ( duffy & Hart apart )

I would assume also that there are no fees just wages to pay which might be shared with the club who is sending the player out on loan. From a short term business perspective we get cash in for Stokes and maybe Bamba without an immediate shell-out.

The signings won't sell season tickets as Hibs continue their measured steps to getting a team on the field to make us dream.

Celtic have spent 16 M for a bunch of known players and limped out of Europe at the first hurdle. Might take some time before we see if we can shape up. Pity Zemmana is out but we 'll have him back just in time for our crappy winter so don't expect too much from him until after April.

Feels like we are in open water , who know which way we will go ?

Have the jambos been active today ?

This is a worry, the guy is hopeless and should be replaced. We need imho a target man, and he's nowhere near what a target man should be. Hopefully we get someone in before 12, as playing him even as sub is like playing with a man short.

You've got to hope we had big guys in on trial for a reason. Though if they are out of contract we can sign them whenever but the dealy isn't giving me much hope.

The rest of it is shaping up but we are far too light up front.

the laddie dickoh is a naturaly left footed centre half. from what ive read about him he's a bit of a hard **** as well. i reckon hes been brought in to balance the back line and play WITH bamba.

You've got to hope we had big guys in on trial for a reason. Though if they are out of contract we can sign them whenever but the dealy isn't giving me much hope.

The rest of it is shaping up but we are far too light up front.

:agree: And have been for some time. :boo hoo:

Dickoh said: "I am really pleased to have signed for Hibernian - a big Scottish club with a great stadium and excellent training facilities.

De Graff said: " I am delighted to be joining a clun with such a great set-up and fantastic history. I had a lot of options available to me this summer but having seen the Training Centre, the Stadium and having spoken to the Manager, I was really keen and excited about the prospect of coming to play in Edinburgh"

The stuff about East Mains and the stadium is almost becoming as predictable as the 'I've always wanted to play for Rangers/Celtic' guff :greengrin

D'ye think they're just making it up likes? Or could it be that the outlay on all the infrastructure is actually reaping dividends by being a positive influence in attracting signings???

I've no doubt it makes a difference, but the person writing the copy for the website really needs to be a bit more creative in attributing quotes. :greengrin

Anyone like to hazard a guess at what Grounds will say when his signing is confirmed? :cool2:

It'll just be a picture of him in a Hibs top swinging by a rope around his neck and an upturned chair on the floor beside him if Dickoh's mugshot is anything to go by.

Seems like a great signing on paper but the one year deal is a bit concerning as if he plays a blinder it just puts him in the shop window for another move.

Thoughts please fellow Hibbys

i was walking passed the ground earlier and seen the big man being shown about, he was walking out the new stand with a group of other folk. make of it what you will but there was the big man dickoh, and 2 other young looking lads who i didnt recognise whatsoever. there were with 2 older guys and a wifey......

That would probably be the social services escorting the big man to his new caravan, and the young guys will be his apprentice peg maker and drug dealer, the deal must be paid for one way or another I would imagine. :greengrin
