It's entirely relevant, you were slagging our signings because they came from a team who finished 2nd bottom, no mention of their merits as players. You also suggested that because some of them were signed from a team that finished 7th, I was somehow accepting 7th as good enough. I merely used the Man Utd situation as an example of how ridiculous your point was. It was and is fully relevant to the comments you made. Teams all over the world sign players from teams below them, because players can be judged on their individual performances and not how the team performs, just because a team is bad, doesn't mean all their players are bad.

I said that Cregg and Gow were not good enough. This disagreement seems to have spiralled into something that its not.
Cregg and Gow were 2 of the better players Yogi had at Falkirk in his time there - my point was that they were good enough for a team that considers 7th to be a success but not good enough for a team aiming for 3rd. McBride has come in and done well, no question there.
However, I see a bit of de ja vu with Hughes going back to sign another player from his time at Falkirk - it appears to me he has a comfort zone with these players and is keen to bring as many in as possible.

If a lower placed/league team have a player that can improve our squad then Id have them in a minute - as is the case with Rooney IMO. Im just not sure that Duffy will - as I have said I Believe his signing to be a gamble.

Ah, now we are getting somewhere, "Its more to do with the players not being up to scratch than where they come from" 100% agree. Where they come from doesn't matter, we could sign someone from anywhere, and I would give them a chance to prove themselves before saying the signing is poor. Once they've had that chance, like Cregg had, then we can say whether he is or isn't good enough.

I havent said the signing is poor - just that I'd like us to show a bit of ambition and sign someone that isnt so much a gamble - that would of course however involve spending some money....

Knives out? Im merely giving my opinion, which is the whole point of a message board. If you read the post you will see that I said "I'm willing to give anyone a chance when they come in". My point was that I think we should be aiming for more than bit part English league 1 (effectively the 3rd teir of English football) players.

But should we? We are hardly the kingpins of a league that is generally accepted as cr*p......OK we have a modern stadium, but our wage structure hardly sits well if we're a club aiming for higher better things. We've just lost one of our more important players to the Tic so we're hardly an attractive option for some based on wages and club profile.

So........how high should our aim be?
