View Full Version : Pet Name For The New East

It's been called everything in informal conversation amongst Hibsmen during its development over the years, from 'Shaw Heights' to 'The Scabby', with 'the cave' and 'cowshed' in between.

What new name can we have for the East? (I'm talking about a fans name, not some lame sponsor designation.)

It can't be anything which celebrates its tattiness, cause is isn't that tatty.

I'd like to see it being called 'the Leith' with the west dubbed 'the Edinburgh' or 'the city' stand.

Perhaps we could call the FF the 'harp' and get the symbols of each up in the front of each stand, give the place a splash of style, colour and symbolism.

The tier, as it is the only stand with a single tier?

Having seen the photos of the inside I think it will be called the cave again or the barn.

Quite like The Fort, especially if the scheme in Leith with the same name is to be demolished.

I suggest The Huckle, as people standing up are likely to be 'huckled' by police or stewards.

Long buried memories of early eighties rockabilly band Coast to Coast doing the Hucklebuck have returned. Not nice.

The Matterhorn - in recognition of the long and unsteady climb we had to make on matchdays years ago, some of us encumbered with Pale Ale cans down jeans, socks etc.

Good one. As much as i like the look of the one-tired stand, I think it's going to get boring quickly, nipping up and down to toilets, catering etc.

Toilets? We had to make do with a brick wall - and we were grateful........

In recognition of the legendary status of it's predecessor, it should be called the 'Mindyerbackslads' Stand.

Either that of the Great Tom Farmer stand/

Think the OP is getting his nicknames mixed up . The cave and cow shed were names for the old stand where the FF stand is now. I don't think there was a universal name for the east stand other than the east stand. I used to call it the ned shed and I'd be happy enough if the new east stand retains a flavour of the ned shed.

A name will naturally grow out of peoples experience of the new stand I don't think it can be artifically manufactured before anyone has sat in.

See you in "The East" has a mystical ring to it. As if one is venturing in search of enlightenment. (Not likely, to be fair)

"The West" on the other hand is a place of material comfort and spiritual decay.
