middletons is without a shadow of doubt the worst pub on easter road. the away fans are welcome to it. place is a **** hole.
closely followed by utopia.

I'd like to see us grow a backbone at Easter Road. We may get beat but this should only make us sing louder.
If we can't beat them on the park we should give them a good 'welcome' off it

There are enough Hibs pubs, away fans have got to drink somewhere, Middleton's is on the main route to the ground for away supporters, its traditionally used by Hearts fans in much the same as the Roseburn is by Hibs fans.
Why bother trying to bully and intimidate away supporters, inciting trouble and ending up in the cells?
Granted the huns are utterly obnoxious, but as long as they aren't in traditional Hibs pubs (Middleton's certainly isn't one) why not leave them to it?

What's the alternative? Herding them in to a large outside pen with giant TV screens? We all know how that buckie fuelled scenario would turn out.
(I still think they thought they mistook the TV technicians down in Manchester for the license detection chappies and panicked. Hundreds of drunken huns trying to stuff a gigantic screened telly in to the nearest coal cellar was always going to end badly.)
Great idea, huckle the away teams support away from their traditional pub on ER and everywhere our away support goes its made unwelcome in the traditional away pubs.
If you think Middleton’s is a good Hibs boozer then perhaps you're not the Hibby you claim to be???
Middleton’s is an OK boozer for folk to go, just not ever other Saturday.

Plenty people have been posting about about lack of atmosphere at ER. In my opinion the atmosphere is always better when there is a large away support, as the home support will respond, as opposed to 100 fans sitting in the South Stand. From a financial viewpoint it should be remembered that an away fan contributes as much as a home fan on matchdays, sometimes more. When travelling to away matches it is always a better experience if you are made to feel welcome and you will be more likely to return when the next fixture comes around. I think that that the OP should consider the above points before posting.

St Mirren are without doubt the most away-fan friendly team in the SPL. Not only is there usually a good chance of beating them, but the staff are help-full and they are the only ground that actually thank you for coming along as an away fan. They also take an away fan as a mascot, not seen other grounds do that at all.

Well said, DBS. Where is this macho crap about "backbone" going to lead us? Back to the "good old days" of the '80's perhaps?
Middleton's is a dingy toilet frequented mainly by crabbit old yams and random OF supporters. They're welcome to it.

I don't think there is a date given on the note on the door.

Depends on one's definition of "backbone" - getting liquered up the stumbling into a pub full of Yams/Huns is not my definition.
Went in there once, and there was a guy in wearing that honking one-off Scotland maroon top. It came as no surprise that he was a Yam.
Not been back since.
Utopia, for the quiet games when it's open, is a nice place to go for a post-match pint, unless you're of the opinion that it's a "Gay Bar" because it's not got sawdust on the floor and a decaying deid dug in the corner.

Sorry pal, I've got better things to do with my time than look to create hassle in a pub - "traditional Hibs" or otherwise.
Candidate for one of the most pathetic posts of the early season.

Away teams can have middletons, but i d like to see more hibs fans on easter road (top half) when the OF are in town. Too often i have walked down Easter Rd. before the game and seen young hibs fans getting bullied. :grr: Winds me up and have had one or two confrontations with them because of this.
No need for invading away pubs but stand up and be counted don't hide. The top half of E.R. is usually buzzing with hibbies any other game, it shouldn't be any different when these fuds come to town.

have to concur here. It is a rats den of a "pub"
never liked going in, tatty, old men sittin peeing themselves, and was a right smoke filled s*** hole. Hertz fans and Rangers fans with Chelsea tops are welcome to it :greengrin
To be honest, pubs south of Middies are all crap. Artisan is even a toilet. And the pub up Abbeymount is gay (the Regent), so the aforementioned Huns are very welcome in there

Never liked Utopia either. Very unfriendly towards football fans. Is it still run by Pat Butcher types?

The away fans are welcome to middletons , and anyway when was the last time away support were seen in the other hibs boozers. I drink in the iona most matchdays and count on one hand the amount of times away support has been seen in there.

I think they got kicked out after not shuttin' up after one of their games last season. There's 3 of them drink in Tamsons now.
There's a couple of Hibs guys that drink there after the match they know.
If its the same folk I'm thinking about.

I get off the bus up the top of Easter Road, i'm usually with a fair few of my mates or my dad and we're in no way intimidated by them, but I imagine a guy or a women with young kids could be a bit intimidated when you see the filth that follow them urinating in the street, drinking Buckfast and singing sectarian guff. However from my experiences with them, the majority of them are all mouth.

I think the point of the OP was that it's a "traditional away fans" boozer and that somehow they shouldn't be allowed a hassle free pint pre-match:bitchy:
:agree: with the bit in bold, but as you say, it's still early:wink:

Brilliant. I'm just picturing all the Hibs fans who go for a pre-match drink organising themselves into groups to spread themselves thinly over all of Leith's pubs for the sake of keeping out away fans. :bitchy:
For starters, I've never known Middletons to be a Hibs pub. For seconds, keeping all the away fans in known locations makes them easier to police for L & B's finest.
Would rather give my money to a decent Hibs pub like the Four in Hand cheers.

How's about moving in on Robertson's Bar on Gorgie Road at the next "Tynie" derby. We'll see whose got backbones then.
