Underappreciated players don't get the recognition they deserve.

We don't currently have a long term sponsor for the South Stand so why not call it, The Dougie Bell, End?

Cant believe you had to check who he was - everybody knows Dougie Bell (born 5 September 1959 in Paisley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paisley)) is a former Scottish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland) footballer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_%28soccer%29). :cool2:

Yeah Dad just pointed that out when I asked him on the phone. Bit slow the day.

Still you really think the club's gonna let us call the south stand the B*** end?

p.s. (wasn't sure if that constituted using the swear filter)

I was there on his debut at Brockville on a very frosty day. Im sure George McCluskey and Stuart Beadie also made their debut's that day. Think we won 3-1 and I can remember the game being in doubt and the players wearing trainers on a solid pitch !!! Those were the day's !!!

Did they not make their debut against huns when we won 2-0 and everybody was booked except Roughie? That would have been in August or am I getting confused.

It was Stuart Beedie and Billy kirkwood that made their debut in the Souness game.

Pretty certain Bell made his debut at Brockville as described by previous poster but it was Tommy Mcintyre and Graham Mitchell that made their debuts on same day if I remember right.

It was baltic that day - got 2 Scotch pies, both were frozen in the middle :grr:

Dougie used to go on these mazy runs and more often than not would end up 20 yards behind where he started, having beaten half the opposition plus a few Hibs players :greengrin

Very skilful player though.

He has a touch of class in his day, not the highest work rate but had a talent. Played with Linlithgow Rose in the mid 90's for a short time.

It was Colin Bell. played midfield in their 1960's team along with Mike Summerbee + Frannie Lee.

One of the hardest players of his generation and knocked out Tortolano in his first week at Easter Road when he tried to take the mickey out of him (not through football ability of course)

He was a very underrated player.I remember him playing away to falkirk in early january on a rock hard pitch where he ran the game scored and we won 3-1.Not unlike liam miller in with silky passes ,seemed quite languid but had a good football brain otherwise miller wouldnt have signed him.Ah the days of geebsie mitchell, mcbride.Just as up and down then as we always been but great supporting the club around then.

I presume you're using the word "footballer" somewhat loosely?

One of Alex Miller's original signings along with Tam McIntyre and Graham Mitchell.

A robust and energetic chap who liked to leave his mark on the opposition, as I recall, and none the worse for that. Surprised and sorry he didn't stay around longer. He was actually a much better footballer than he was usually given credit for being. :agree:
