Am I right in thinking if its 3 – 0 (3 – 3) at the end of normal time it will go to extra time. Yes it will. Yes I am talking to myself and a small chap with a white coat has just arrived :spammy:

If both teams score so that its 4 – 4 or 5 – 5, for example, at the end of extra time am I right in thinking it will go to penalties as away goals do not count double in extra time? Small chap returns to yellow van to consult handbook! :rules:

Hibs would go out if it finished 4-4 on aggregate, even after extra time, thats how we went out to AEK.

Did we not get beat 4-3 on aggregate by AEK.

Got off my backside and looked it up :agree:

Article 8
Away goals and extra time
8.01 For matches played under the knockout system, if the two teams involved in a tie score the same number of goals over the two legs, the team which scores more away goals qualifies for the next stage. If this procedure does not produce a result, i.e. if both teams score the same number of goals at home and away, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played at the end of the second leg. If, during extra time, both teams score the same number of goals, away goals count double (i.e. the visiting club qualifies). If no goals are scored during extra time, kicks from the penalty mark (see Article 17) determine which club qualifies for the next stage.

I thought it had changed

I'll go peacefully :lips seal

Away goals still count in extra time

Not a great rule IMHO but taking it into account it is a great reason for always having the first leg at home!

So by reading that we need to win by 4 clear goals to go through?

4-0, 5-1............6-2:thumbsup:

Or have I got that way wrong?

Or we could win 3-0 and then go through on penalties.

We could also win say 3-0
Then beat them on penalties too
but I reckon that would be too much
for my heart to bear

More than one way to be correct. :greengrin

Yeah but for the sake of our nerves I'd much rather 4-0.

If it is 3-0 and it goes to extra-time then it is written in stone that Hibs are duty bound to concede at least 1 goal during the extra-time period. The only exception to this is the Mickey Mouse Cup.

It will be in a rule book somewhere, but it may be easier to check the stats.

There is a easy rule - the only way a game in Europe can go to extra time is if the score in the second leg is exactly the same as the first leg, it can't happen with any other score - simples.

Surely you mean "if the score is an exact reverse". I like your way of thinking though... If Maribor beat us 3-0 on Thursday, we'll just call it a draw. :greengrin

Sorry, I know what you mean. I'm just being a pedantic smart erse:agree:

A 3-0 home win in the first leg followed by a 3-0 home win in the second leg = exactly the same score.

I hate it when pedants don't think it through properly :nerd:
