Any other Hibs fans been up it?

How did you find it???

I walked up it Saturday just gone, wasn't as hard as I expect and got to the top in About 2 hours 20 mins...... then again that might be slow

Spoke to lots of different SPL fans ranging from Charlie Adams mate to Falkirk fans to Dundee United fans to one lad claiming to speak to Stokes steaming on Thursday nights before games!!!!

No Hibs fans though............

That's quick. I walk the hills regularly and couldn't do that. Maybe I could have when I was your age:greengrin

I just find it amazing how these generalised statements about our players always seem to be made by fans of other clubs. I know we're just a wee team but you would think one or two of us might witness these oh so regular events!

2hours 20 up is pretty good going Halifax.

I go up the hills quite regularly and thats a fair old pace. It's not the best hill walk though - Ben Nevis by the Pony Track is just a brutal slog for the better part of 4400 feet (although there are lots of other routes up from ridges to serious rock climbing.

If you go back to that area, the range immediately to the south (The Mamores) are magnificent, and you can get to them from Glen Nevis or Kinlochleven

funny this should appear as I'm away camping up there at the end of the month - not looking forward to the millions of people though so hopefully get up the top for about 7am :greengrin

I'm due to go up Ben Nevis at the start of September (doing it for Childline - see the link in my sig and please give generously:greengrin).

Really looking forward to it, but have been told to expect to do it in 3 hours + due to not being the fittest of fellas. In saying that, I've done a fair bit to shed weight leading up to it, and should hopefully have lost about 1-2 stone by the time I do the climb.

I'd say 2 hours 20 mins was quick ---------- very quick in fact!

The most disappointing sumit I have scaled. Graffitti and litter lying everywhere. Best get yourself up somewhere remote like torridon or the likes.

Got to agree, I'm only going up as my mates is dying to do it. Much prefer doing remote wild camping.

The only way it will be semi enjoyable is if I convince him to get to the top for dawn, weather permitting obviously the sunrise would be amazing.

Out of curiosity I'm going out to buy a new rucksack for wildcamping this weekend, does anyone use anything in the Osprey 50L+ range? It's awfy expensive for a bag...I take it's the same old rule, what you pay for is what you get e.g quality?

Make sure you try it on for comfort - its each to their own with Rucksacks. Couple of things to consider though:

With a bigger, heavier pack, you'll sweat more, so get something that has good air flow around your back, and preferably has adjustable strap positions on the back of the rucksack so you can move it around as suits. Also, depending on where you carry your tent/bivvy/sleeping back, make sure its got the relevant straps and compartments.

I bought a Deuter 50+15L about five years ago for overnight wild camping, and its been great, if not a wee bit heavy compared to what you can get now. But essentially you're right - the more you pay the better you'll get.

:agree:

It's such a shame because when you get a clear day the views are stunning. As is the experience of standing above the clouds, an experience i was lucky enough to enjoy once.

I've climed Ben Nevis 5 times now, twice on the tourist trail for charity and 3 times by alternative routes. The tourist trail must be the most joyless experience ever, it's essentially a slog for 3 hours up a rocky track. The other 3 times were far more enjoyable clims but the summit itself is a dump. Folk should really show a bit more respect, litter everywhere, graffiti everywhere and groups of folk shouting and whooping. One of my biggest gripes is folk who throw apple cores and banan peels and other stuff like that away, when you say anything you get the standard reply of 'but it's natural, it's bio degradable'. Yes, you idiot it may well be natural in an orchard in Surrey or a banana plantation in Tenerife but not here, in Scotland, where the summit temperature of this mountain is about 1 degrees, in July! It will take months, if not years to decay. Take your rubbish away you lazy barstewards.

That sounds awful - I'm in no rush to get to Nevis, it can wait.

I'm going to either Ben Lui via Glen Cononish or 2 of the Arrochar munros on Saturday, I'll decide on Friday where the weather looks best!

I was up Ben Lui, Ben Oss and Beinn Dubhcraig in May - brilliant day. If youve got a bike take it as far as Cononish - it was a major blessing to be able to freewheel pretty much all the way back to the car at the end of the day.

Never made it up Ben Nevis yet but I'd definitely go up the Carn Mor Dearg arête route and scramble to the summit rather than the tourist trail.

Did Meall a' Bhuiridh and Creise on Sunday and it was very enjoyable. Great views down onto Rannoch Moor and over to Buachaille Etive Mòr when the sky cleared.
